then you did not check the recon fixes.. due west.

just the eye contracting on satellite..

It's also the angle of the shape of the arc of Cuba that helps make that illusion.

Eye contracted... not a SW movement

Nah..look at last goes frame bro

thats 2 frames now. If thats an eye illusion like that it would be a neat trick but we wont have much longer to wait

Aside from this debate over Irma's direction, it seems the bigger story is the slowing in forward speed.

Recon doesn't lie and the fixes are due west. Next 3-6 hours are pretty critical as to what happens down the line.

Looks like it's going to attempt some sort of trochoidal oscillation.

You can see how she slows to a crawl as she landfalls in Cuba:

But if she spins long enough wouldn't the mountains in the SE part of Cuba disrupt the outflow a bit?

See a crack in the NW quadrant. Good news. I think Cubas terrain in this part of the island is the highest it has to offer, but its enough to damage the system a bit. Every little bit counts.

Per best track, it appears that a 140 kt landfall is occurring pretty much right now. I think Irma may be the first NAtl system to make a category 5 landfall in two different areas.

It's not. It's actually the flattest in that area. However, it is interacting with the land, causing friction.

What happens if Irma just sits and spins for hours on the Cuban coast? The models didn't forecast this. does this mean a turn further east?
