Moderate strengthening to about 928 at landfall is current I believe.

I do understand that's still a terrible storm with life-threatening effects. And also that it's size makes it more difficult. Whether the higher winds make it down to the surface will also be interesting.

At the current rate of deepening, it will be at 928mb by midnight.
Is that the xtrp intensity model?

Southern outer most eyewall is right on the coast over the flat marshy islands. From here on out it can really start to deepen.

Replying to @AlexJLamers

Recon shows model-advertised pressure falls begun. 4mb drop 2:30 to 4 PM. Wind field still very broad. Plays into surge threat. #Irma

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Entirely depends on how the inner core reorganizes, but it's entirely possible the MSLP continues to deepen but winds don't catch up, instead the storm just continues to become more and more massive. Ike in 2008 did this after landfall in Cuba.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Wow, while I was getting my backyard ready Irma's pressure already went down to 935mb just like that. I would think that her pressure dropping down to 910 if not a little lower would not be that hard to reach if it has almost 24 hours over water before making landfall in SW FL.

This could be the most dangerous storm the FL Keys have seen since 1935. At the very least, since Donna and Betsy in the 60s. Awful situation unfolding.

How long does it usually take winds to catch up to pressure drops?

Still only about 15mph here in neighborhood...Took last shower for probably a while...

They have expanded the surge zone evacuations to "D"...Germaine Arena Shelter full but taking people anyway...

Just have to set hurricane locks in garage doors...Use T Bar to shut off water main at street...And last exit shutters...Will do idiot check list before leaving...

Hope to see you after the storm...

Late here but good luck with the storm Sanibel. The storm surge will probably be the biggest threat. Hope to see you soon.

The outer eyewall is starting to look really well defined on the last few radar scans.
