Fort Myers, Sanibel, Miami (right now), Naples, Charlotte Harbor/Port Charlotte, and of course the nightmare scenario of Tampa Bay.
This is going to be a huge disaster.

I saw Fort Myers have a "negative" surge, guess that because winds are from the east blowing the water out? but it will surge back when then center moves up along the coast?

Correct. Water is being pushed out of Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Fort Myers, etc. It comes rushing back in as the eye moves north of the area.

if it can stay east of Tampa it would make Huge difference. There is still a decent chance of that in my opinion.johngaltfla wrote:tolakram wrote:The story with Irma is going to be the surge, whoever gets it.

I'm having a hard time tracking a motion other than almost due North over the past 3 hours.

Forecast by both the GFS and Euro for 8 AM, which one is closer to the forecast, I would say the GFS is closer to where Irma will be in just half an hour at 8 AM.

The link below opens a Google + GIS map that always shows the rain forecast over the next 2 days. To see the map legend, click “Map Tips” in the upper left corner and then click the “Legend” button.
Also when the map opens it shows stream gages. If a gage is purple it means that a major flood is happening now. To see a real-time graph from the USGS with the **observed and forecast water level**:
1. Click a stream gage, a popup will appear.
2. Scroll down in the popup.
3. Click the link.
The map has 20+ GIS overlay layers that you can turn on/off. You can also make your own custom map link that displays the data you want to see when the map opens.
What to know how? Click “Map Tips” in the upper left corner of the map.

Yup, and it looks like the lower Keys, just east of Key West are getting the brunt of the eyewall... may god save those souls that chose to ride it out.
