And to clarify re: radio in Miami,

It's not that the am / fm stations are offline. THEY ARE PLAYING MUSIC INSTEAD. As confirmed by met John Morales.

John Morales‏Verified account @JohnMoralesNBC6 3m3 minutes ago

No. They just decided to play music instead.

Wow. And this is with Miami "dodging" the storm according to some...

Looks to have slowed down and possible a NE wobble looking at radar. Slow north movement

Conditions in Kendall:

John Morales‏Verified account @JohnMoralesNBC6 2m2 minutes ago

Gusting to 70 MPH. Will get worse

Also per John Morales a few minutes ago: 100 MPH gusts likely now for Miami high-rise buildings.

I've yet to see one report of a sustained hurricane force wind. Not even in key West close to western eyewall. Something may be inhibiting these winds from reaching surface. We aren't even inland or dealing with land friction or weakening which should reduce winds further to the north. The high inland wind warnings may not verify.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

8 am. #IRMA's center (purple) is trending E of the official forecast track (yellow). This has implications Re: landfall point later today.

Here is a Google + GIS map that will always show the latest NOAA storm surge forecast. Red = 9+ feet! Click “Map Tips” to see the legend.

In this case the water won't come back until the eye has passed to the North, but yes extremely scary

I'll let you know after the storm is over.
When I get power back in 7-10 days at the earliest.
We're projected for sustained 110+ with gusts 130-143 mph.

But hey, what do I know, I live in the bullseye.

Thanks for posting that. I thought the radar was playing tricks on my eyes. This is a little better, not even close to great for my area, bad for everyone to the east who sounded the all clear.

Officially 70 mph wind gusts at the airport where the anemometer is actually on the western side of the airport even further inland, so I wouldn't doubt that the coastal areas are receiving hurricane force wind gusts easily.

Temperature: 26.1°C (79°F)
Dewpoint: 24.4°C (76°F) [RH = 90%]
Pressure (altimeter): 29.39 inches Hg (995.3 mb)
Winds: from the E (100 degrees) at 47 MPH (41 knots; 21.3 m/s)
gusting to 70 MPH (61 knots; 31.7 m/s)
Visibility: 1.25 miles (2.01 km)
Ceiling: 1500 feet AGL
Clouds: broken clouds at 1500 feet AGL
broken clouds at 2100 feet AGL
overcast cloud deck at 2900 feet AGL
Present Weather: +RA BR (heavy rain, mist)
