That's irresponsible. He could end up being correct but it's way too early to project that kind of certainty.

Wish these local mets would be held accountable for their incredible presumptive statements about hurricanes and their potential impacts. NHC doesn't make these assumptions for good reason...

Let's keep it on topic. We could fill an entire thread with what TV mets say.

The quotes you get from these TV personalities sound like comedy hour. Really a great indicator of who not to listen to. Trends do look good but it is and will remain too soon for quite some time to determine what, if any impacts Maria will have to Florida or the CONUS.

Just a hunch but I'd place the intensity between 145-150 knots with a pressure around 920 mb.

Fairly small wind-field. Flight level winds still <50 kt between Guadeloupe and Dominica.

Probably going to have some insane winds in the eyewall though.

Other than Irma, this so far has been the most impressive hurricane I've ever tracked in the Atlantic and is becoming even more

NHC says WNW @ 9mph and was 13mph this morning. Does look like she is slowing a bit, did models have this slow down?

It was painful listening to the TV news with them saying "Category 4 Maria" when we all know what her category truly is currently. What's another CAT5 to throw in the season's satchel?

On the plus side, the eye is pretty small. The downside is, so is Dominica.

I was just saying the same thing. We went there back in 1996 and there was plenty of evidence they were recovering from a storm then too. It was my favorite of all the islands our cruise visited because it was just beautiful and not quite as touristy. Not that ALL islands weren't beautiful, but there was just something special about Dominica. So sad.

They don't call it Nature Isle of the Caribbean for nuttin, you know!

Maria looks like a tiny vort cane... a large tornado surrounded by a tropical storm. If you avoid the tornado-like core, you're going to do okay but for those unlucky enough to get the eyewall it looks like a wipeout.

I'm really hoping they do a NW/NE pass while sitting in the eye a bit. Sigh.

Extremely tight pressure gradient here. Recon extrap pressures are near 1000mb just miles from center.

Looks like concentric rings on radar now. Let's see if recon observes a double wind maximum.

Laughably presumptive statement. Too far out and too many variables.
