Wow, this season is really one for the record books. We may never witness anything like this again in our lifetimes (hopefully).

I've never quite seen a triple whammy to CONUS like this in less than a month.. Harvey, Irma, and Maria..

I expect October to have at least one if not multiple intense Caribbean systems include a Western Caribbean system.

Things look bad for Dominica, thoughts and prayers for the island.

Better worry about a GoM monster too unless we have a cold front make it through Florida and soon also. Godspeed Dominica.

OUT OF THE BASEMENT!!!!!

That is likely to fill up with water due to the torrential rains

SECONDED! An INTERIOR, WINDOWLESS, ABOVE GROUND room is the best. Get a MATTRESS and use it to cover yourself. Keep a WX RADIO and BOTTLED WATER nearby. Everything else can WAIT!
basement is a great option if they are not in a flood zone near the beach. This is a mountainous terrain. A basement on the side of a mountain is better than anything above ground- this is like a giant tornado-

Looking at that radar, am I seeing Irma all over again? It looks like whatever concentric eyewall that tried to form just merged with the pinhole..

My heart aches for the people in Dominica (and the surrounding islands), this is just awful. For both the people who live there and the ecosystem... Hope the folks there are in good, well-built shelters.

Eye coming on shore.
Looks like it shrunk a few miles in diameter doing so.

I saw that as well, looked like an aborted EWRC.

Pretty big west wobble in progress. Models have this moving WNW-NW overnight.

So sad, just a few hours ago Maria was tracking more NW and looked like the eye was only going to side sweep the northern tip of the Island but in the past few hours it started tracking almost due west towards Dominica.

There is a sad long political story of corruption from the government wasting money on shelters and infrastructure but that is for another time. Meanwhile, just pray. The buildings there are not designed to stand up for this, this storm will make it look worse than Jost Van Dyke or Tortola if not worse I am afraid. Godspeed to those poor people.

Saved radar, making landfall now.

Beautiful Island, let's hope the small eyewall spares most of it. This is Roseau from Wikipedia.

Roseau is sadly exposed on three sides by water due to its jutting out into the Caribbean. Hopefully people avoid sheltering at the bottom of hills (mudslides) but do seek shelter on the north side of the island which is harder to get to but isolated from the main impact of the storm once the winds shift to SE as the eye passes. The surge and flooding will be nasty as the coastal cities flooded during hard afternoon rains.

My wife just said she is glad we hiked the Boiling Lake while we could. God knows what that will look like in a few days.
