Re: ATL: MARIA - Hurricane - Discussion
Googling Dominica, I see only the reports that came in via Facebook last night from the nation's Prime Minister. Nothing since.

Ouch!! I forget that very important facility is there. I'm sure they have procedures to secure, but with CAT5 winds a possibility, I wonder how much they can do?

Not looking good for Puerto Rico. Any info on how many shelters are available and filled up? Any way to get a mass evacuation this late if they are full? Whats the plan??

Peak flight level winds 143kt on this pass, pressure extrapolates to 927.8. Looks like we lost another 1mb or so while maintaining winds.

What cities in PR are prone to storm surge, (and)has there ever been such event in the past? Not quite enlightened yet on Antillean and Caribbean geography....

San Juan has a really good chance at seeing the eyewall. I hope people are as prepared as they can be.

They are. People are on the verge of panic. No one is taking this one lightly.

Except that that would increase the threat to the Virgin Islands, who were already battered almost into oblivion by Irma!

Not just the eyewall, but specifically the NE quad if the Euro holds true. I really hope they are prepared. What's the expected impact timeline for Puerto Rico?

I notice that all the SFMR winds are flagged as being unreliable. An issue with the instrument, perhaps?

Re: ATL: MARIA - Hurricane - Discussion
If you extrapolate the motion since landfall in Dominica, the eye of Maria would pass directly over Puerto Rico and very near San Juan. I'm not saying that will for sure happen, but it's not a good sign...

They're not just flagged but if I've been reading it correctly they're simply not reported at all.

With 17 kt winds at splash. Minimum pressure likely between 926-927 mb now.

Very Concerned about her safety!
