Has anyone heard from cycloneye?

Hope is safe and dry even if the situation catastrophic without any electricity.

Here are some pictures from our local newspaper called " FranceAntilles" related to Maria passage in Guadeloupe Tuesday morning on the southern side ( locality of Basse-Terre) and southwestern localities ( Pointe-Noire, Bouillante, Baillif) .

It appears Maria has been dealing with some southwesterly shear due to a weak upper trough for much of today, based on the CIMSS upper wind analysis from earlier. The 12Z sounding data from Jamaica backs this up showing 25-30 kt southwesterlies in the 200-300 mb layer. However, that shear may at least be temporarily relaxing based on both Maria's convective evolution and the CIMSS upper wind analysis for 21Z. It'll be interesting to see the 00Z sounding from Jamaica since it's possible the <200 mb outflow may be obscuring the flow just below anvil level, but expanding outflow is usually a sign of a healthy tropical cyclone.

I think Maria is intensifying again. Convection is becoming deeper and more symmetric. Additionally, the flight-level wind profile in the inbound leg was much sharper and well-defined. Looks like the extrapolated pressure dropped a couple millibars since the last pass too.

She is tracking a little SW of the forecast 0z was supposed to be 21N 69.9W ...recon says 20.8N 70W. Just watch it...

WAOUW that's a lot?! I think that 1 or 2 months is highly possible. PR will have help from others countries in the Lesser Antilles, the US and others to a quick and full recovery.

I can't help but to start to think of Katrina, she wasn't suppose to go on SW and she did for a good while.

If those two highs merge and the ULL doesn't form over the SE US, I could definitely see Marie move W to WSW to SW to go around the lower edge of the High.

I have heard that the last time they got hit, the power was off for several months. I don't think that was the 1920-1930's big hit either.

They'll have help, but distributing food and water and erecting tents is one thing, rebuilding the entire power grid of a country is totally another. I'm skeptical it can be done quickly. Now they face a tough choice of spending a lot of money to patch up an existing infrastructure that is badly out of date and that will probably fail again, or spending even more time and money to replace it with a modern and more secure system.

Not sure that’s going to happen anymore, maybe 5 days ago it could have been a solution but we are now a couple of hours away until it’s projected N turn. The Katrina thing was 12 years ago, forecasting has improved since then.
