It's really cool to even just read messages from other fellow like-minded weather enthusiasts--from the first indication of whether a possible event is on the horizon and may/may not happen, to just prior to an event that has already been deemed as inevitable (and preparations are underway and it's exciting in many respects), to the actual event itself, and what other people are actually seeing on the ground firsthand--I find it all very fascinating. I'm glad to finally join on here--during school times I get quite busy, but I will keep up and post several things that cross my mind that I think are worth relating to the overall convo.

Don't be shy about posting!! We're glad to have you join us!! If you don't understand something, ask a question. There are no stupid questions. I've learned a lot of things over the years since this site was formed and I still ask questions.

That Avatar is from the infamous snowmaggedon in North Texas Feb 2010. I had it as my avatar for months as it was torture for WacoWx to relive. How the snow line was oh so close to Waco where a foot of snow was nearby and nothing across counties.

Everybody seems so quiet and depressed today!!

I think everyone would have had much more tempered expectations when this potential event showed up on the models a couple weeks ago.... And would still be more hopeful now that there's mere hints of something next week.... If the very first potential threat of the season hadn't actually verified with a miracle for South Texas.

6z GFS like the Canadian is cold New Year's eve and Day. Precip has been on and off for it. Sprawling big HP, but Euro is milder

Secondary surge of cold air is crossing southern plains this morning. Winds at DFW have switched northerly gusting. If only we had a storm to take advantage.

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the Great Christmas Eve blizzard of 2009 as well as 13th anniversary of 2004 S Texas snow. Brought a white Christmas for many both years

With right timing and colder temps, might get interesting for I-30 corridor.

STJ will be active this week

Honestly I'm pretty happy and thankful there is no 2.5" ice storm over the center of the state right now. If its not going to snow then the 70 degree temp last Thursday is probably the best weather you could have world wide. Cool and sunny is not too shabby.

Absolutely! I'll take partly cloudy and low 50s for a Christmas Day forecast every year. It'll be cold enough to feel like Christmas yet no severe weather to complicate folks' travel plans and activities. I am also very glad that the apocalyptic ice storm which the GFS was showing a while back never materialized.
