Of course the 12z GFS has a winter storm in the long range... However, we can't get any of these disturbances to dig into the SW in the near term.

We can work on the moisture part later. Have to get the cold first before we could get some winter precip. I’m just glad the GFS is back on showing the cold front coming through around New Years. Now we need the Euro to show it.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
I have followed this board since the early 2000's. As my first post on this forum, I wanted to take the time to thank you all for a fourteen-year educational weather ride. I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge but consider myself as not having learned enough yet. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Its cold now and pretty chilly week ahead. Climo is favorable thru early Jan. Cold fronts have more umph and longwave pattern can produce. We just need something to dig in the west, cold air has been there just no luck timing storms. Don't think we will be torching anytime soon.

GFS keeps pushing back the snow. Y'all know what that means, it won't snow. Sigh

Well the GFS does show a warmup into the 60’s and 70’s in SE TX ahead of the New Years front.

1053 MB high showing up on the Euro at hour 120 in NW Canada. Not bad for the Euro.

Euro went to the GFS on the colder side for new year's weekend. Not as flat as previous runs with cold staying to the north

The Euro keeps flipping b/w more amped up and more zonal solutions. On the 12z, shift the center of the western ridge west and Texas would get the full force of that dump. Like you said above, even without a major dump we are in a pretty cold stretch as even the more zonal NWish flow keeps most of Texas from torching.
