The long range Canadian exists primarily to make carnival fortune tellers look skilled. They are all an embarrassment. The jury is still deliberating.

I live for cold weather highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s is ideal, I was just reading what 1/3/18 said. I'm just being realistic with the GFS being to cold and the CMC is on crack. The NAO is positive as well.

Statewide hard freeze at the very end of the Canadian? Extreme cold across all the Panhandle & all the Southeast?

Good thing we're in fantasy land. It'd be crazy to see that happen, to say the least.

For SE Florida the lows at night will be in the 50s which is not bad according to NWS Miami. I wish I would be cooler than that and they did say it could be 2 to 4 degrees cooler than that.I want upper 30s or lower 40s for a few nights and a negative NAO.

NWS Melbourne disco

Monday-Tuesday...Considerable uncertainty exists between global
models as the pattern looks to amplify further early next week. Both
the GFS and ECMWF agree that short wave energy transiting the Gulf
will spawn a surface low to our west; however, the systems strength
and movement vary considerably cycle-to-cycle. Opted not to make any
significant changes this forecast package, keeping increased cloud
cover and shower chances for the start of the New Year. Confidence
in temperatures remain low as well, but a tendency for near to below
normal conditions appears good for now.

Good morning everyone

2 major things to take away from looking at the 6Z GFS this morning:

The Subtropical Jet stream looks to really get active right now on through the middle of next week. The STJ potentially will be the big saving gracefor the peninsula with regards to the first surge of cold coming for Monday-Tuesday period coming up.

1. The STJ will be the chief saving grace for us here in North and Central Florida from receiving some of the threat of significant freezes as the first arctic blast comes down the pike on Monday and Tuesday of next week. GFS is showing rain and clouds to move over much of the peninsula Monday into Tuesday. 6Z GFS also is showing the development of a surface trough/Low Pressure area east of the peninsula beginning Monday night into Tuesday.

2. Another reinforcement of actic air looks to arrive by Thursday of next week . It is this particular surge we have to pay attention for next week. This looks to bring freezes to North and possibly to Central Florida by next weekend. Also the polar jet really amplifies deeply across the CONUS late next week and ooks to suppress the sub tropical jet much farther south during this time period.

:uarrow: Yeah, I saw that earlier. Yeah, EURO went from being so conservative with this arctic blast to being super aggressive now for next week. Lol...

Well, EURO is only playing catch-up to what the GFS has had showing for the last couple of weeks.

Pretty safe to say now that we are in for quite a cold spell the next week to potentially out 10 days. Our luck escaping these arctic blasts looks to be finally running out it appears.

Will this arctic blast affect South Florida because the highs and lows only reflect low 70s and upper 50s.

The re inforcing surge coming by Thursday of next week will impact the entire peninsula. Everyone will feel Old Man Winter's full force from 1/5/18. - 1/7/18.

Well, it is still at least a week away. So, it is a bit hard at this time to say just how cold South Florida will get by next weekend.

I will say that potential hard freezes are in store for All of North Florida and freezes down into the Central peninsula would be possible as well.

If I hedge an educated guess, interior areas of South Florida reasonably could see temps in the 30s. Long range GFS out to 7 days show 40s over Southeast Florida.

FL is in deep trouble if last night's Euro is correct, showing low 20s to mid 20s for lows in parts of central FL, freezing temps all the way down to Broward County for Friday morning, with another deep freeze Friday night down to SW FL.

Yeah NDG that Euro is the coldest I have seen the model show for Florida in years. Interesting how the GFS is now the warmer model and the Euro is the colder. Let us hope the Euro backs off on those extreme cold temps.

Do not lose sight that this arctic outbreak will not be for just a couple of days. This is going to be a prolonged event lasting at minimum at least a week, possibly longer. We potentially could be looking at damaging freezes like December 1983. Hopefully not that severe, but that potential is a reasonable possibility next week.
