I am curious if Houston sees any snow this evening will it be a fluffy snow like we saw earlier in December? Is that something we can tell at this point?

Doubtful, last Dec the snow came from very cold air in the cloud level where snow was generated. Today the temps at cloud level are not as cold. I think the reason for heavier totals up north of Houston is that temps are colder at 850mb up there.

Guys, I am seeing moisture returns in West Travis County? (TexasMesoNet radar) There is a fine mist coming down? Humidity is rising (or trying to) from west to east in Travis county obersvations. Thoughts?

Yep, that looks like it could be the start of our frozen precip event developing. This could changeover to snow soon as it tracks southeastward towards Houston through this evening.

Yeah I am seeing some reports on social media of moderate freezing drizzle in west Austin. Nothing here but low clouds and cold at the PWC right now.

I have fine frozen precip falling here nw of Lake Georgetown. Starting to stick to our truck and Jeep. Very light. Our weather station has us at 27.

Looking at the long range GFS, it's remarkable it doesn't go into full "torch" mode like it usually wants to do after a long cold spell.

It's sure nice to have a winter this season. But I got a feeling Wxman 57 is cooking up one hot summer (circa 2011) for us here in Texas. That's why he is playing "cool" with the cold weather lovers on here.

Absolutely NOT a lock, it's still 8-9 plus days away so a lot can change but something that bears watching...will have a much better idea by this coming weekend

12z Euro is definitely a weird run has warmth here through the end of the run and when i go to Chicago next week a foot of snow lol

It's interesting in that this passing shortwave was not expected to drop freezing precip on the Austin metro area ... but it's an overachiever alright. Freezing Drizzle and sleet, albeit light, now being reported in western and northern parts of the metro.

Perhaps you guys in SE Texas are going to score on this one!

Thanks for doing that. Yeah, I'm getting light freezing drizzle now at my place. I'm on NWS Chat currently and they have issued a Special Weather Statement. Not sure if it will end up anything beyond that. Hope not.

Well, it's kinda hard to track drizzle on radar. But I just did a lengthy examination of radar images from Fort Hood and New Braunfels via RadarScope. It does appear like the precipitation in general is moving southeast.
