Re: Florida Weather
Wow.NDG. That is not good. They could be stuck up there on that downtown bridge for who knows how long. That bridge is just like the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville (cable suspended) I can only imagine how bad the icing is up on that bridge.

Re: Florida Weather
From the sound of it, glad I drove back from North Carolina several days ago instead of today.
At least for South Florida metro areas, this just looks like a couple nights of chill in the low-mid 40s. A nice little slug of cold, but definitely not a January 2010 or December 2010 type situation for us. Negative NAO is probably the missing ingredient for that.

Re: Florida Weather
Looking at the Intellicast radar, it looks like the back edge of the precipitation shield to the west has cleared Tallahassee now. The changeover to snow appears to be about on top of Valdosta now. It looks like much of the area away from the immediate coast will be changed over to all snow I think by 10:30. - 11 a.m. across most of inland North and Northeast FL and across Southeast Georgia.

Re: Florida Weather
Now down to 27.5 here with ZR continuing. Reports of much of the precip changing to sleet and snow not too far away from this area to the NW, W, and SW. I still expect a change here within the next 1-2 hours consistent with what NorthJax said.

Re: Florida Weather
Larry, while I sit here awaiting the changeover. A and Looking at the surfacevsnalysis, I was amazed how far south this storm formed yesterday. It formed just south of the Middle Florida Keys yesterday. The models for days and days kept insisting that our storm would develop near the NW Bahamas. What has happened in my opinion is that the shortwave energy coming through now across North Florida is obviously turning out to be much stronger than what the models initially analyzed it to be. It has caused the base of the larger scaled upper trough axis to deepen very shareply over the Bug Bend region currently. The dev eloping storm system in response is developing right off the immediate Southeast Florida coast. The Low , currently at 1010 mb. It is forecast to intensify rapidly as it moves NNE just off the Florida East Coast this afternoon.
Due to the fact that the storm system developed much farther south than where the models originally had it, we will see a fairly good wrap-around moisture field right along the coast from East Central Florida coast northward up to the Carolinas as the phasing of the polar and southern stream jets continue this afternoon.
C old air will come rushing in being strong north to northwest winds from the Northeast FL area up to the Carolinas. I think we may see surprising snow amounts before precip ends from south to north as the Low Pressure moves out and pulls a bit farther from the immediate coast by tonight.

I see that Cecil Commerce, on Jacksonville's western end of Duval County. now is reporting light snow. This is the first snow report I have seen this morning down at Jax.

Yes Gatorcane it is. The storm system developed much farther to the south than where the models kept trying to develop it in the days leading to this event, which I touched on above.
EDIT: Moody Air Force Base, just outside of Valdosata, GA, now reporting light snow this hour.
The changeover is steadily progressing eastward.

Yes. The ZR continues (been doing that for over 3.5 hours) although a tiny bit of sleet has started to mix in. Hopefully the predominant ZR will end soon because the ice has built up to 1/8" on surfaces. When it gets to near 1/4" is when power outages typically start to increase.

Re: Florida Weather
Well my relatives in Lake City are enjoying the snow as it falls there now. Though there's been bridge closures reported there too due to ice before the changeover. It's a cold rain here at my locale, though flurries are possible later on today. Fingers crossed.

Re: Florida Weather
I'm starting to get concerned about power outages. The predominant ZR has picked up in intensity to moderate and is really starting to add up. Based on my measurements, we're already approaching 1/4" of ice buildup on flat surfaces. Interestingly, I warmed all of the way to 31.5 temporarily in the heavier ZR!

Re: Florida Weather
While I am not getting and winter weather in Rockledge I should have brought the stuff in from the patio. Winds easily gusting over 40 and everything on my patio is flying all over the yard. Good thing I have a fence lol

Re: Florida Weather
Just in time to avoid lots of outages, the ZR just switched to mainly sleet and it is of a pretty good intensity. The sleet switched to snow recently in the western part of the county and downtown per NDG downtown. Back down to 29.7 here.
