Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
Quick post before beer, food, football, and beer. For me any map or model posted is E/I. Does it get frustrating when most of the time in just a few hours things change? Hell yes it does, but this is winter in Texas, a seasonal rollercoaster of maps, models, and let downs. Every year. Some years we get lucky, some we don't. What is equally as frustrating is when some posters perpetually repeat the same old thing time after time again until some the fun is sucked out of an otherwise fun discussion. For example not paying attention to any model a certain amount of days before and event, blah, blah, blah. Most of us on here know darn well a massive blizzard is not going to happen 10 days from now. What the long range maps interpret at times is an atmospheric pattern change and nothing is wrong discussing it. Temp and precip will work itself out later, as always. Much easier to predict a pattern shift in the long range than specifics. Heck, even a pattern shift is difficult to see at times, similar to this month. No poster should ever feel deterred in entering anything pertaining to weather today or 10 days from now. Granted, it is a slow period in early February and posts have a tendency to wane during these periods, but no one should be discouraged to offer input at any point during the year. That is why this forum is great year round. And thanks to all who make it such.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
I got to go see the Weatherfest this afternoon at the Bob Bullock museum here in Austin. Saw a set up with a weather station, owned by the LCRA. I went up to go see it, and I noticed a person standing there to the side. I did a double take and thought the guy to the side looked familiar. Anyway, I asked him about the weather station, and he told me how they measure the temp, humidity, rainfall, and level of the stream. It is solar powered and can last a week on backup battery power in the housed unit with if there is no sun.
Still wondering about his familarity, I then asked him, "Are you Bob Rose?" He smiled and said "Yes, I am.
" I was grinning dorkily.lol, and told him I knew him through his blogs and have been following him for years, and introduced myself (feeling awkward).
I had no idea that I would get to meet a local celebrity!lol
Also got to see the video game exhibit on the third floor.
Cool "star-struck" moment!

2014-15 I was already performing a requiem for the winter about this time. The last week of February and the first of March totally saved us. Bubba hotep kept the faith. We got a 6 week window yet. Let’s hope we hit on it.

Man do you live in a different state? It’s 70 degrees here currently in SE TX.

Perhaps a disclaimer "For entertainment purposes only" on the long range models would help keep things realistic and positive

Temp dropping. 27 with a wind chill of 13. It’s cold out! Welcome back winter, even if it’s only for a little bit.

Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
I’m kind of disappointed in the lack of chatter here about a rather significant strat warming event upcoming and a large lobe of the polar vortex spinning in North America. Sure, models don’t show cold coming yet, but it’s rather uncertain still.

Southtexastorms, do you have any idea? I guess maybe models flip on a dime when these events get closer. Not sure

No telling. I'm guessing we'll see some signs by the end of the week, but not sure at all.

Yep. As a Westlake grad, incredibly proud of and happy for Nick Foles, but as a Cowboys lifer, there is no professional sports franchise I loathe more than the Eagles.

I dont think its just a sad day for Cowboy fans, I think its a sad day for good decent people of the world. Philly may have the trashiest fans on the planet, so lets hope for a super blizzard during their parade so almost no one shows up and the TV cameras will have no proof that it ever happened.

A super blizzard? There are way too many winter lovers there for that. It needs to be a mega rainstorm, which is worse anyways.
