Re: Texas Spring 2018
NAM is dangerously close to freezing in North Texas. Gardeners will probably need to take precautions.
Temperature difference will be stout. 70s and 80s ahead and falling to 30s and 40s a few hours later

This freezing cold weather is depressing. What is the root cause of this? I haven't seen an April weekend this cold in years. It's race weekend at TMS, so anything below 70 is unbearable.

I have been watching this. Could well see some sleet mixing in as the rain ends. I will start watching even closer now that we are in NAm range. GFS was showing this a few days ago.

Picked up a freeze this morning of 31. Luckily I haven’t planted my garden yet.

I wonder how that old guy knew not to plant a couple weeks ago...

At this rate, I might as well go into my summer hibernation early. Glad another quarter of an inch of rain fell to bring the Rain Cave's March monthly total to about 4.50" but of course storms would sputter in developing over Austin last evening then build once the front is south of the metro. Looks like we can expect a persistent cap that will likely win out Friday and then high pressure will settle in at which point we can say goodbye to rain chances till....? Still this wasn't unexpected.

Well, we are getting northwest upper level flow courtesy of persistent upper level troughing across the Central and Eastern CONUS. We have been in a -NAO since the beginning of March. It is forecast to gradually become neutral or even positive by mid April.
The polar jet is dipping southward far enough to bring these cool spells into the Central and Eastern CONUS with the current pattern. Also, these potent mid latitude shortwave disturbances keep reinforcing the upper level trough over the Eastern U.S. almost like clockwork. That is why we have seen the parade of nor'easters over New England the past few weeks. This same pattern will bring more snow to the Ohio Valley region and eastward to the Mid Atlantic region later this weekend.

Wow, from an EF-1 tornado 15 minutes south of me yesterday to snow falling today. I got spoiled by the warm springs in Ohio the last 2 years. I'm not used to this extended winter lol.

Both the 00z 12k & 3K NAM get DFW down to freezing while the 12z & 18z GFS keep DFW just above freezing but all the northern burbs get a freeze. Also, 3k NAM is showing some feezing drizzle or light freezing rain/sleet moving across DFW.

Running in the CAP 10K on Sunday here in Austin. NWS forecast said low of 45 Saturday night!?
I guess I'll wear long sleeves and shorts. High supposed to be 77 Sundsy. There will be thousands of people down there too to heat it up.
