It may have only been DFW's oficial 3rd day of 100 but trust me there have been many 97-99 degree days with dewpoints in the 70s that have been dreadful, not much different if you ask me.

They hinted at a 4th of July rainmaker possibly. Meanwhile, have to get through the same ole same ole. Hazy Friday and Saturday because of Saharan dust. My nose and eyes act up every time that rolls in. Guess I'm allergic to Africa(?).

Yea I need to get ahold of Jim Spencer and ask him what he thinks about next week. David is a pretty cool guy. Met him a couple of years back during a social outing with Jim.

I guess I was lucky than most in the Austin area from the last rains even though I don't really feel lucky. Just a tiny bit above half an inch. Barely enough to keep the grass perky for a couple of days.

You met both of them?? Cool! I met Bob Rose this past February during a weather expo downtown. He had his weather monitoring station with him and explained how it worked. Told him I followed his blog. He was really cool and knowledgeable! Acted exactly the same as in his video blogs.

I've known Jim for over 10 years, I've even gone boating with him before. Interesting side story, he lives next to the house my grandparents owned. They passed away years ago and the house was sold but still interesting coincidence. I've also visited the studio several times and actually helped him one time during a weather segment where I controlled a zoom in screen. Pretty fun experience.

I predicted a half inch yesterday (before these models were updated), give or take next week. The wetter ECMWF model has trended dryer from yesterday (no shock there). Look like the weather service is predicting 0.75" - 1", slighter wetter than my 0.5"+. That said, I hope we're both wrong and we get 4" - 5".

Meanwhile, let's enjoy this beautiful Chamber of Commerce Texas Summer weather, complete with African haze, and nice, warmer temperatures by next Tuesday!

I'm already seeing it in the skies here, especially to our east. Amazing how all that dust gets caught up in the jet stream, getting halfway around the world!

Typical summer weather in place over the region with hot and mostly dry conditions with an isolated 20% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm…this will continue for the next couple of days.

Changes appear on the horizon as we start the 4th of July week as vorticity over the SE US begins to dig SSW around the building of a large upper level high pressure system that will bring dangerous heat to the Midwest and NE US this weekend into early next week. Easterly mid and upper level flow will begin to develop along the US Gulf coast early next week on the southern side of the large high pressure cell over the Midwest to NE US. Active weather over the NE Gulf of Mexico is forecasted to begin to shift westward and arrive into SE TX by late Tuesday into Wednesday. This feature will likely consists of an upper level trough and a surge of tropical moisture. Confidence is starting to increase that the period from late Tuesday into Thursday of next week will feature active showers and thunderstorms and some of these storms may contain very heavy rainfall.

Note: the much talked about Saharan Dust will be starting to arrive across SE TX today and encompass the entire area on Saturday into Sunday. Most of this dust is elevated well above the surface…above 5,000 ft, but at times some of the particles can drift to the surface and cause some breathing irritations. Such outbreaks of dust have occurred in past summers resulting in a hazy look to the sky over the area for a few days.

Agreed it provides stunning, clear images. GOES-17 (S) is in orbit launched earlier this year and should be operational in the near future. My guess is it will become GOES WEST with a better view of Texas, EPAC, and Western US via the same if not better quality.

Perhaps better ingested satellite data from the Pacific will improve forecasting ahead through the new GOES 17

Euro is on board, but we've been down this road before... Also, it doesn't take much rain to get above normal in July and August.

It can happen if the big heat pressure ridge pegged next week is to the north of us. Usually a weakness will be beneath it. It will be hot and humid but relative to normal the hottest would be in the midwest while we get popcorn showers.

Yeah , we average literally a few hundredths daily in July so even .3" is a TON of rain! LOL

I mean some of the rain has been fake news so its just like the "snow" in the winter
