ATL: GORDON - Post-Tropical

I have to say, Gordon has begun to capture some of my interest. The developing core is giving me some deja vu to Maria, which also had a core develop rapidly within a radar scope. That one was estimated at landfall to be at a 55 kt intensity, but the 984 mb pressure and the measured 83 kt wind gust make me suspect it was closer to 65 kt at the time.

Took me a second to realize you meant the typhoon. I thought “Where the heck did Hurricane Maria have a mere 65kt landfall?”

Like I said in earlier post. RI is not out of question. New tower over center going uo... Think we are about to see a huge CDO from Gordon. I think the ULL over Cuba for next 12 hours will be hindering some development... Alhough egom is very warm!

Looks like a big blow up is coming right on top of the COC by looking at recent IR trends.

After refreshing 200 times I was finally able to get a NEXRAD loop from Wunderground.

Saved loop.

Well, this is escalating quickly..

So much for me getting a nap before work.

Went to bed at 5am thinking I would wake up in a 6 hours or so.. but I kept rolling over checking radar.


and now I am trying to find a cheap flight to the gulf coast.. grrr not so cheap so far..

Heh, yeah I guess I could have been a little more clear on that. I'll typically throw up a year abbreviation if I'm referencing a system from another year (such as Maria '17 if I was referencing last year's system), but I can understand the confusion considering to notoriety of last year's system.

Regardless, Gordon's evolution on radar does remind me of Super Typhoon Maria early in its lifecycle just prior to Guam landfall. Here's a Tweet of mine from the time as the inner core rapidly developed on that one.

I was just watching a few PWS in the marco island. The eyewall is brushing the coast now.. however... Strongest winds I have seen are 15mph out of the east.
