Lol. What I’m saying is they don’t have to drop them. They can rely on SFMR.

SFMR, as far as I know, relies on wave effects.

You are correct. SFMR uses the surface of the ocean to estimate wind speeds. They also generally don't fly over land for safety and to limit how much they interfere with air traffic control.

Hurricane Trackers tweet read:
Gonna call it now. Thinking #Gordon will achieve Hurricane status before landfall along the Gulf coast. Gulf coast residents should prepare. The center is under deep convection, great outflow, warm water & no shear

Been outside getting the yard furniture in and hurricane preps worked on. Came in to take an break and looking at the radar loop out of Key West......WOW! Gordon looks to be getting organized quickly once the COC emerged off the coast. Just hoping I'm on the weak side of this intensifying cyclone.....MGC

Bets on intensity recon finds? I'm guessing close to hurricane strength.

EDIT: Jesus Christ at that tweet, I'm going with cat 1

I don’t remember the actual pressure drop/x time basis for RI, but NHC takes it to 70mph at the 11 am advisory. It’s a small system. Also, I don’t trust radar for depiction without knowing how far up is being sampled. Many times it will show something presented like a Hurricane that ends up being at the mid-levels or displaced by the angle and height sampled. If the radar presentation being shown here is close to the surface, I’d be more likely to buy it. Imho, Gordon doesn’t look all that great on visible. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t depict a rapidly improving system. It does show more concentration blowing up near the center so the old convection to the east will probably die off as the new burst is closer to the center.

I wished for this benefit many days ago. Katrina is what finally disrupted the great 04-05 red tide which had persisted for 20 months.

Such a incredibly small core, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that it wrapped up so quickly over a warm Gulf and pretty good conditions aloft.
