Oct 13 and storms brought to you by the letter N

#1 Postby senorpepr » Tue Oct 14, 2003 11:02 pm

Another name down... Nicholas. Odette is next on the list. Nonetheless... here's the data for Oct 13 and "N" named storms.

Below is a breakdown of what storms were active on Oct 13 in 1990 and between 1995 and 2003 -- an active period of tropical cyclone activity. (Note: storm numbers in parenthesis had been finalled out by NHC prior to Oct 13) If applicable, there is a listing of what date the "N" storm developed on. At the end the list is the 30 year average ('74-'03).

Please Note: The start dates of the N-storm are when these systems were tropical depressions.

Active Storms on October 13, followed by the date the N-storm formed.
03: 18, 19; Oct 13
02: (12); n/a
01: 11; Nov 4
00: (12); Oct 19

====

Average Date for N-storm*: Oct 22 ('03: ahead of schedule by 9 days)

* N-storm occurred 20.00% of the time in the past 30 years.

Note: The following "30-year averages" encompass the years 1973-2002

TS YTD vs 30yr Average: 14 vs 9.80 (+4.20)
HR YTD vs 30yr Average: 6 vs 5.77 (+0.23)

Also... here's a clip from Nicholas's 6th advisory:

SINCE 1900...ONLY SIX SEASONS HAVE PRODUCED MORE STORMS THAN 2003...AND THERE ARE STILL SIX WEEKS LEFT IN THE SEASON.

...Interesting...

Interesting date indeed and this shows that we have to follow the atlantic basin tropics seasons from start to finish because we haved seen systems formed from april (ANA) to TD#2 at the east atlantic in june to now Nicholas in mid october in the east atlantic.
