The eye wall looks open to me on IR loop. A small slot of dry air is evident on the south part of the circulation. Other than that Michael has an outstanding satellite presentation. Glad I visited the PCB area this summer. Sadly it is going to get blasted tomorrow. Feel sorry for the people who decided to stay.....MGC

What are you talking about? This storm IS exploding, and has been for quite some time.

Too early to say. Pressure is still indicative of a max cat 3. Winds might be edging into Cat 4 though.

Calls for it to get to Cat 5 before midnight are pretty unreasonable, a lot of structure needs to evolve for that to occur.

The way the south side of Michael looks, I doubt winds are Cat 4 criteria.

South side seems to be dying down, shear or dry air?

Yeah I look at the TT page for recon just got told on the last recon they said the SW eye wall was open. So I was wondering if there was somewhere to get this information? Ive seen snippets before of people posting almost a report of the data coming from the recon and would state the status of the eye wall.

Fortunately we don't have to guess since recon is in the storm.

Satellite and reconnaissance data from Hurricane Hunters suggest Michael is at category four strength. This is an extremely dangerous, life threatening storm capable of catastrophic damage. If you have friends or loved ones in an evacuation zone in the Florida Panhandle, call them and tell them to get out NOW.

I know some friends that have chosen to ride Michael out in a 2 story condo right behind the "dune" in Pensacola Beach. I told them they would probably be okay if everything stays the same as of now but I would not take that chance. Even a 4 ft surge will likely wash over parts of the island. Michael is really concerning me with his convection tonight, this is not the north Gulf of Mexico hurricanes we are used to seeing...

It's not too late to evacuate, but it will soon be. If you are hesitating, you really should leave now if you feel uncomfortable or have been ordered - you have only a few more hours.

I didn't say they were, but this storm has been undergoing RI for days now. It's a mere 5 MPH away from being a category 4 at this time.
