I'm sure it's been posted but do you have a link for his live feed? Also, has anyone considered creating a sub-thread for any web-cams, live feeds, chasers, etc? I know we all offer up links here in the discussion thread but when it gets crazy busy with so many posts, just thought it might be worth making more quickly available to reference

Keeps coming back "bad gateway"???

It did for me too. I downloaded the Live Storm Chasing mobile app and it's working great.

If we didn't have recon this would probably be a 150 to 160kt storm. The satellite presentation is on the same level as Wilma and Maria for the Atlantic.

Just how rare is it to see a storm get this strong so close to landfall it's frightening this is still exploding only a a couple hours off shore.

Long time follower, first time poster. Watching how incredibly quickly Michael got its act together from a large gyre to the cusp of a Cat 5 shows that no matter the models and other technology, mother nature always wins. This storm shows that storms don't always weaken or veer away. Hope those 60k in Bay County that didn't evacuate stay safe this afternoon.

The SE eyewall sonde from the last pass just came through. 144kt just 8mb above surface. Plane is about to make another pass, looks like NE to SW actually.

:uarrow: .Michael has the very best satellite presentation I have ever seen from any tropical cyclone not only in the GOM , but one of the best ever in the entire basin. I put Michael right up there with Gilbert, Rita. and Irma at her peak last year

Both Ivan in 2004 and opal in the early/mid 90's did an extreme intensifying shortly before landfall. This type of event isnt unheard of, but maybe for this time of year. Both Ivan and Opal rapidly intensified before landfall but then a few hrs outside of landfall they had a weakening phase. The only difference here is Michael is not experiencing a weakening phase. Opal and Ivan both hit in the midst of night as far as I can recall so that likely had something to do with the greater picture as well.

The models predicted this, unfortunately many figured it would weaken like all the others. I understand the sentiment but I think it's important to point out that this was predicted pretty well in advance.
