Michael should top Andrew and Katrina if pressure keeps dropping like it has been.

Adair has relo'd to Port ST Joe, I believe thanks to our Rail Dawg. Hospital there is 25 feet above sea level. At the marina for now until surge moves in.

I agree, it is pretty incredible how good of a job the models have done with this storm. Climowise I think many thought this would not end up being this strong, I mean look at all the records this storm is going to shatter. The one silver lining is that after Harvey and Florence this shouldn't be a major inland flooding event. The downside is that this is going to be a catastrophic wind event that the CONUS hasn't seen in a long long time.

Why did you think there would be negative effects is the question. Heat and moisture over the entire SE US and August like temps, plus onshore wind behind Michael, not cool dry air coming from land. I have to say I was dumbfounded when I saw a couple of people posting this last night, and apparently not looking at the data. Cat 4 almost 5 ... not expected, I should add, but no weakening.

I saw that too, actually caught one at 196mph a few minutes ago. The mesovorticies seem to be having quite an effect on windspeeds in the eyewall. Radar velocities show a reasonably sized area of 170-180mph winds, but theyll randomly spike to 190+ at times.

For those who have never been to the “forgotten coast” area it is one of our favorite vacation spots. Appalach, Eastpoint, Carabelle. So sad for the area. It is a lovely area.

Sadly, I've never been there even though I'm just down the road near Clearwater Beach. I've heard great things. All that forested area I'm guessing will be destroyed. I remember seeing the swath of destruction from Charley

Just madness, I know no one in their hearts thought it'd go 130kts, but even so they did know a probable major was coming...they rolled the dice..this time they loose.

Almost certain Andrew will be down to 5thmost intense, fair chance Katrina goes down to 4 as well...

In fairness, it is common to see storms weaken as they get close to the coast and for a variety of reasons.

Seeking local contacts to facilitate a disbursement site in an impacted neighborhood.

What a cool concept! Makes sense too; small detached communities where significant impact may have occured but not primary enough for the larger focused efforts of the Red Cross or other Emerg. Response. I have no contacts there unfortunately. If I don't head up (or are unable) to Crawfordville to help friends, i'd be happy to lend a hand.
