Lot of debate and hasn't it been reclassified several times suggesting no one really knows?

I think 900 for Camille at landfall, with 175mph winds. It was a small (in area), but tight storm.

Recon is running out of time to do another complete pass before landfall. I guess we need some serious ground measurements to bump this to a CAT5

Isn't the conversion factor between flight level and surface winds 90%? If so, the surface winds would be ~129 kts, which would be 150 mph.

Labor Day was between 880 and 892 and Camille 895 to 905, with nothing else below 920 in the US, so at 919 it'd be pretty solidly in third place; and the panhandle is the LAST place in the GOM I'd have expected it

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

To think that 3 days ago when the HWRF was saying 938 and we all thought it was in Lala Land. Now we see it was massively under done!

Looks like this weatherflow station will be very close to the center of the eye. Let's hope it survives until then.

And think how this started when most models didn't see any long-range monster in the making.

Michael may very well be at Category 5 intensity in the northeast part of the eyewall right now.

The good news on that front is that it looks like landfall is going to be right over the Air Force Base, which I assume is outfitted with a nice suite of weather instrumentation.

Camille was 900mb. We had gust over 100mph in Slidell and we are about 30 miles west of Waveland MS where Camille came ashore.

What wind should I expect just east of Destin?

I think this the first time I've ever seen Nat'l TV break coverage because of a hurricane, Ginger Zee reporting live from MX Beach, incredible image, can't even see outside is completely white out.
