Im not so sure what we are looking at though, clearly they are in some structure looking out the window. Maybe storm surge debris? Im not so sure that is proof of homes leveled like in Andrew... hopefully anyway.

They maybe in some concrete hotels. Any wooden structure won't take this kind of winds for sure.

I would like to know lol. We’re 86 miles N of PCB roughly. We have a huge branch that came through our pool cage at 10 am CST. Lost internet and cable at noon. We know it’s gojng to get a lot worse later for us. Looking at some pretty crazy winds.

And everyone is talking about how it’s going to turn Northeast. When? I’m also in Dothan and huge branches are already crashing all around my house. My internet also went out around noon and now the power is blinking. I’m concerned that Michael isn’t playing by the rules.

Unless latest stats change THIS is the official ranking of most intense landfalling pressure/hurricanes.

Some were discussing, and tweeting, pressure at landfall. Katrina made landfall at 920mb but of course just looking at a single stat is meaningless.

I wouldn't exactly call it "meaningless" since it obviously has meaning. But I would concur that you couldn't make any generalizations from that since there are so many other factors to consider, including wind speeds, size of the storm, extent of hurricane winds, extent of tropical storm winds, and impact which has many variables in and of itself.

Reminds me of Harvey and how it kept its perfect eye intact for so long after landfall. Except this is quite a bit stronger.

At this point it's likely to enter GA as a major hurriccane. If I remember correctly the last major to hit GA was back in the 19th century?

And I think longer. This is the first time I've EVER seen a storm stay this much in tact after coming completely onshore. It is quite astounding!!!

All builders have to do is tie the roof to the walls and the walls to the foundation. Once the roof goes the house goes. So sad to see that happen.

The two "good" things about this storm is its moving through very quickly and its daytime. Likely it will be safe enough and still light that rescues can begin in a few hours.

At least the eastern quarant missed Panama City, otherwise we would be looking scenes like that in downtown Panama City

How did Michael attain such a low pressure but not reach Cat 5? It wasn't too large either

This is a Florida building code requirement and has been since about 1995 - post Andrew.

Who was the guy on the cell phone that told him to go back to Mexico Beach from Port ST. Joe?

I've been watching Adair the whole morning.

I knew that was a grave error and shouted at the screen...NO!

It was unbelievable how quickly that surge came in.

This should be required viewing for all those who say they are gonna

"ride it out"

I'm sick to my stomach.

Praying for Adair and his friend.

It also sounded like Adair's instincts were correct but he decided to try to go back because of the other guy badgering him. I had the same feeling.

I'm guessing in part because windspeeds lag the pressure drops a bit and the speeds didn't have time to catch up before landfall.
