Winds Lowered...Had my doupts of seeing any gust to 40 across the mainland either way.

A 20 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Windy, with a west wind around 24 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Feels like a Fall gale in my native great lakes region today. Throw in sassy fast moving convection (some with lightning) coming in off the Gulf and it has an early season lake effect feel out there. It's a rare and legit gale here and the sunshine skyway is closed to all traffic due to those winds which is not good considering the traffic here for the holidays. Speaking of that...the weather is looking outstanding for Christmas and even better thereafter as temps flip to well above normal and sun returns.

29 with gusts to 41mph is certainly attention grabbing. Amazing how some sun which yields vertical motion can transport those stronger winds to the surface. definitely a hold onto your hat day out there.

Well I can only speak for my area at work in pompano beach with a 15-20 mph breeze right now.

Winds have been gusting to at or near 40mph here in WPB for several hours now. Not to mention it’s cool and overcast with a occasional shower or two making it feel kind of raw outside.

Winds have definitely been on the increase in Boca Raton, it’s now gusting to 47mph in Ft.Lauderdale

It seems some of the fast moving showers are transferring some of the stronger winds to the surface, Ft. Myers is gusting to 59mph.

The Weather Company is calling for below average temperatures for all of the SE including Florida from January-March. They also show that February could be our coldest month of the winter.

In spite of the tight gradient, my neighborhood is essentially experiencing 10 -15 mph winds. Just as you've pointed out though, we are getting a few strong gusts to perhaps the 40mph - 50 mph with a few of the fast moving showers pushing through. Just had a dead limb from a large Oak tree in my front yard slam down on my roof about 30 minutes ago. Luckily, no damage. Can't say the same for one of my neighbors though. They had a large limb break off one of their trees this a.m., and it caused damage to their roof over the garage.

I'm a skeptic on the long range cold but not the huge after Christmas warm up. It is coming and it will be glorious.
