These storms have more of a flood threat than severe threat, which is fine with me.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
1006 PM CST Wed Dec 26 2018

.UPDATE...
A quick update to reconfigure the two Tornado Watches that are in
effect across South Central Texas. For Tornado Watch 442 we have
canceled it for Llano and Burnet as the line of storms has moved
mostly through these counties, and extended the watch until midnight
for Williamson County. For Tornado Watch 444 we have canceled it for
Edwards, Gillespie, Kerr, Kinney, and Real Counties due to the
progress of the line. The rest of the area will remain under a
Tornado Watch until 2am.

The line of storms is currently extending from northwestern
Williamson County through the cities of Burnet, Johnson City, to
Kerrville, and Concan. A few straggling storms have developed at the
southern end of the line from Brackettville to Reagan Wells. Ahead of
the line, in the warm sector, scattered showers have developed along
and east of I-35. The line will continue to progress eastward and
should be to the I-35 corridor between 10:30pm and 12:30pm. Through
the evening the main threat has been large hail, with several 1 to 2
inch hail reports coming from the Brackettville and Camp Wood areas
of Kinney and Real Counties. In addition, with the slow movement of
the line we have seen some minor flooding of low water crossings and
rises on creeks and streams prompting a few Flood Advisories. Going
through the rest of the overnight hours as the line approach the I-35
corridor the threat for hail, damaging straight line winds, and
isolated tornadoes will continue along the line. In addition to the
severe threats these storms are producing a large amount of
lightning. Behind the line of storms the front has moved through Del
Rio with northwest winds taking hold as skies clear.

Surprised to still be seeing giant lightning strikes and plenty of them in frisco right now!

I wouldn’t believe the models past 3 days at this point. They’re clueless.

Both the 6z GFS & FV3 are hinting at the possibility of some frozen precip around southeast TX next week.

Still a long ways out, but gives us something to track at least.

Seems like they had yesterday's storm sniffed out pretty well in advance.

BTW, I finished with 3.25 inches of rain. It's a beautiful, crisp 53 degrees this morning and everything smells clean and fresh.

I'm in San Antonio, heading back to Cedar Park today. It didn't rain here until about midnight. A steady rain with some lightning. My dad got 5/8 of an inch.

It definitely looked like Austin got hammered! I checked my RING and saw it pouring at my house for at least an hour or two, with quite a bit of lightning.

I can't wait to check my gauge when I get home later today. I'll report later. Should keep down the Mt. Cedar for a day or two.

I am travelling down to Houston next Wed and the weather looks mildly interesting with a number of Euro members showing a snowy drive down there.

I bet it will cause me to head out ahead of the storm and snow in Tyler and melt before I return Thu evening while Houston stays dry.

All I can say this morning is ... WOW! ... what a storm last night. The Portastorm Weather Center got absolutely hammered -- and no, I'm not talking about drinking too much Grey Goose either! LOL.

We had close to 3" of rain in just a few hours. Flooding of creeks, low water areas, and a bunch of close-by C-G lightning strikes, including one which toppled a power pole in half around the corner from my house! We had no power from 12:30 am ish to 9 am this morning. Amazing to have such a storm in December, especially one like last night which resembled a spring thunderstorm by Texas standards.

Anyways ... glad that is over. Now, let's change this pattern and start talking about ice and snow to make wxman57 miserable!

:uarrow: Yep. Our power was out too. Got pea size hail with the torrential rains. 3.4” at my place. Thrilling, scary and fun.
