So any potential for central N Tx to get involved or is it just hinting strictly for E Tx?

Get some moisture in this set up and the snow drought ends. In other terms, the HP system and cold dome isn't extraordinarily cold but for any given winter it's good enough for highs in the 30s and lows in the low to mid 20s. Teens would require clear skies but not likely with the storm system above creating strong cloud cover and precip chances.

We had a fairly strong cold snap about the same time last year that kept highs below freezing on New Year's day. Of course I'd pull up maps from NOAA's reanalysis for the same period last year, however the partial government shutdown has made some pages not operational currently.

East and Northeast Texas is the best areas for QPF right now. Anyone along the I-20 and I-30 corridor is the zone the GFS and Euro have been hinting at. Farther north is too cold while further south is too warm. This could still change if the storm is stronger and or the STJ can be tapped.

But you know that saying, thunder and lightning then snow a week later...maybe applies for some.

For the late Tues into Thurs event next week, the 12z Euro shows a swath of snow from about 1" in the Waco area northeast to Texarkana who gets about 4", making aggiecutter a happy man.

12Z Euro ensembles are similar. best chances for more than a dusting are in NE TX though a much wider area could see something.

Plenty of time to go for trends. It will be cold before and around when it happens.

For once just let the timing work! Find precip.

It looks like most of the precip as of now will be in far east TX and over into Louisiana and Mississippi. Need that to shift west a couple hundred miles or more.

I’m in Florida for a few days just for a lil vacation but the weather here is —DISGUSTING— during the winter too. For vacation, it’s good but I can NEVER NEVER, even for a million bucks, live here! Now Wxman57 would love it however.

84 with a heat index near 90 here in Orlando with the humidity during the afternoons.

Euro is significantly further west with the precip as the low is much deeper over Texas. I am much more comfortable waiting for others to move towards it than the other way around.

For the Wednesday system, one of the things we need to watch is the Northern Steam wave. It was much stronger on the 00z Euro and eventually overruns the system coming out of New Mexico. On the 12z today, it is barely there and stays a lot farther north allowing our system to come out of New Mexico with more amplitude.

00z Euro with strong Northern Stream wave.

CMC is looking like it wants to hop onboard. 0z run is holding more moisture back further west.

This is what I meant by it wasn't that far off from a significant event! We need another run of the Euro to do this and thread will go crazy.
