Re: 2019 WPAC Season
I’ve heard that Japan, Taiwan and the US would jointly conduct a research project from July to September. Recon missions (including eye penetration) would be conducted on systems approaching Taiwan.

That's some good news!
Hopefully WPAC will get full recon coverage in the future.

It would be even better if they expand to systems approaching the Philippines and Guam. That area is the hotspot globally.

MJO is currently leaving WPAC. However, models are saying it may return shortly in the future.

The blob of cloud south of Guam seems to be fairly organised. Perhaps future 91W?

Re: 2019 WPAC Season
Looks like the basin will be quiet after what ever happens with 01W. Climatologically February and March are the quietest months in the year long typhoon season. WIll there be any surprises?

In an apparent first, Chinese scientists have launched a weather-observing rocket from an uncrewed semi-submersible vehicle (USSV) to study the interaction between the air and the sea and the weather it produces, like fog and powerful tropical cyclones. The scientists carried out trials in rivers and in the ocean from May 2016 to November 2017. The devices onboard the semi-submersible functioned properly, and the researchers were able to launch four rocketsondes to a maximum height of 1,230 metres, receiving near real-time data on the air pressure and temperature as well as the wind speed and direction.

Yup climatologically February and March are the slowest on record. Models keep the basin quiet.

Re: 2019 WPAC Season
Interesting runs for sometime now. EURO and GFS has something very near the equator moving east across the WPAC while the latter takes it to CPAC.
