80 degrees in February is nothing. During the Great Winter of 1985-1986, it was sunny all the time and we hit 91 on February 20th. Best winter ever! Just 10 years later, we hit 90 on February 22nd. I remember going swimming at the apartment pool in February. Those were the days. I see nothing to complain about.

I'm comparing the FV3-GFS temps across Texas to the current GFS and that model is about 20 degrees colder. Hardly has Houston getting above 45 between Friday and Sunday. Current GFS has highs into the mid 60s Sunday. Hint of an ice storm moving into Texas on the 384hr panel (FV3).

That is sort of surprising given a good freeze is on tap. Leads me to believe plants and flowers react to short term lag effects of warmth rather than predictive indicators.

Most plants and trees are opportunistic and take advantage of a given situation. There is a few however that go dormant for the long haul. Trees and plants really aren't a good predictor of upcoming weather or seasonal temps. If you want to look towards nature for early seasonal signs, look at animals. Especially the thickness of their fur and behavior. All of my livestock are still sporting a really thick wooly coat which at this point of the season is a good sign that winter isn't over.

It is surprising and might be the earliest I have seen spring growth. I agree with the warmth theory and we could have many more freezes this winter. Interesting to see if the early flowers survive.

When I get a little bored at work or need a break I like to catch up on this board and a college football board to keep things interesting. Its the heart of "snow season" in Texas and also National Signing Day. Between the warm weather and Early Signing Period, I can't tell which board has less activity today. I need a new hobby.

yeah I know, its been a really frustrating winter to say the least(but I think plenty has been said about that already)

I spotted some Bluebonnets blooming along I-35 near the Riverside bridge today. Also seeing Mountain Laurels blooming as well. I will say I do enjoy this cloudy, slightly foggy weather and hope that it continues. We don't really need to see the sun out for awhile....
