It is sleeting here at the Rain Cave. First winter precipitation so far this winter.

Another round of snow/sleet/graupel here at work around 11:30. Not sticking long enough for a decent pic. I can't upload a better video that I took. Anyway. Just a few in wipers.

So when folks say DFW, more south DFW or is the whole area looking at a potential? I'm north side of DFW so my question is concerning that area, but DFW as a whole too.

Currently the winter advisory only covers counties directly south of DFW and that’s where the precipitation is located as of now. However, it’s hard to accurately say where these things are going to go so potential exists for northern burbs and dfw proper still.

Still going on in 78723. A little accumulation on neighbor's well insulated roofs; just a little.
(Ignore the Big Bend dust layer underneath.)

Looking at some of the pictures we might need to have Abbott declare a federal emergency and get FEMA deployed.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Didn't he call for Winter Storm Watches and all of that? This event currently is a far cry from that. Right now it's a novelty event and there is no impact on roads or bridges. To his credit he was bullish on an event which few models outside of the Euro picked up on that far out. But the magnitude so far is nothing, really, as evidenced by the photos we are sharing and the chuckling go on.

Last Thursday morning, I posted a graphic comparing the 00Z Jan 30th forecast from the GFS and the FV3-GFS. The forecast was for 12Z this morning (6am). FV3 was going 14 in DFW while the GFS was predicting 43. Looks like the FV3-GFS won, as it hit 23-24 in DFW. Not 14, but closer than 43. GFS was consistently too warm (sad, for me).

Wife said graupel in Palestine. Looks like the band is shifting north and has its sights set on Tyler now so I may start seeing some here shortly.

Seems unlikely given lack of model support. However, DFW has been running 2-5F below what models had been calling for through noon and at least a portion of that is a due to a deeper cloud layer. Maybe that also points to better overall moisture return? Won't know for sure until 00z balloon.

Listen, I went years ... decades ... centuries down here without sleet or snow. Now, we're the Graupel Capital of Texas (thanks aggiecutter). These things come around. I'm serious when I say I would be shocked if DFW went all winter without at least a minor winter weather event. It WILL happen for y'all.
