:uarrow: Yeah, that was the worry: Strong straight line wind damage with individual storm cells. The big worry is the low level jet re-generating these storm cells near and within the squall line later today. This may be already happening apparently.

Hmmm, after a morning of drizzle the sun is now out strongly and we are getting some solid heating in SFL. Might help the squall line out a little for us.

NWS Dopplar Radar is showing a possible tornadic cell near Lake City on the leading edge of the squall line pushing through that area currently.

Update: NWS Jax WFO just issued a Tornado Warning for Columbia and Baker Counties in Northeast Florida.

JAX issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning [wind: 70 MPH, hail: <.75 IN] for Clay, Duval, Nassau, St. Johns [FL] and Camden, Glynn [GA] till 12:30 PM EDT

Remember when I said that I hoped that the dangerously high wind gusts wouldn't continue near my area? I guess that's not happening.

Looks like the worst of the squall line has just pushed through the northern portions of the Jax area where I live, but it was a whopper of a storm. Just braved the elements right quick and checked the gauge and that storm dropped just under 1.5 inches in just 35 minutes. Still raining. May end up with closer to 2 inches. when it is all said and done. Also again had a 53 mph gust in that squall line as it passed through.

Doesn't say whether this was related to the weather but I believe it likely was.

Trees toppled and downed power lines reported across the Jax area, but scanning the HAM radio currently I do not hear of any severe damage or injuries in Jax so far.

Numerous trees reported down in and around Gainesville at this hour.

Damage reports coming in from Southeast Georgia area

Wind gusted to 60 mph reported at Huegonot Park
Jax NAS reported 52 mph gust
Craig Field in Arlington area of Jax reported 47 mph gust.

I had a 53 mph gust at 12:17 p.m. this afternoon.

Back edge of rain about here. line is looking weaker as it heads east and it was a non event here...although some areas did get some gusty winds. Overall a nice storm and refreshing rain cooled air.

I will post a little summary of today's event by early this evening.

Thankfully, the squall line came through our North Florida region about 3 hours earlier than initially forecasted 24 hours ago or else I think things could have ended up worse than what actually occured in my opinion. Be as it may, it was definitely a pretty decent squall line for sure.

Well, it definitely was an interesting day for most of us across the Florida peninsula. The amplifying and anomalously deep upper level trough indeed took shape and brought us a pretty good round of storms and some reports of severe weather across North Florida. A pre-frontal squall line, as was forecast to take shape, developed late night and moved steadily eastsard at a good pace. The squall line haf alreadymoved throuhh the western panhandle region and reached the Apalachicola River basin by 6.a.m Eastern time. The line already moved into the Tallahassee area before 9 a.m.. It then had made it already to the I-75. corridor by 11a.m..

The squall line reached the Jax metro area right at noon today, about 3 hours ahead of its initially progged arrival time by the GFS. The squall line really began to re-intensify, with individual storm cells really beginning to produce strong and damaging straight line winds and potential tornadic cells which triggerrd warnings in Nassau County and just across the state linre up near Kingsland, GA. It was very clear around noon today, that the Low Level Jet , which intensified today across the region with the strong upper trough digging down into the Deep South, really was interacting with the squall line.

I maintain that had the squall line arrived a bit later, and take more advantage of more diurnal heating into the afternoon, we would have been looking at a much more serious potential of more significant damage than what we eventually ended up with earlier today..

So, we got by with some down trees and power lines in the region, but thankfully no loss of life or injuries across Northeast Florida. There was the tragedy of the young girl over in Leon County (Tallahassee) who lost her life when a tree fell on the house where she was living.

So, I ended up with rainfall total measured right at 2 inches for today's event. I measured a peak wind gust of 53 mph at 12:17 p.m. at my home locale today. A pretty good gust front and squall line came through the Jax metro area and North Florida region for sure. Overall, thankful that the worst weather came earlier! I feel we lucked out in that regard for sure! Hopefully, our neighbors in South Florida will fare out OK down that way as they are dealing with the threat of strong storms down that way into this evening.

Now, for the best news yet!! Fantastic weather is coming this Easter weekend, beginning later tonight, as much cooler and eventually drier, continental northwesterly flow will infiltrate our region. Temps in some cases will be running 10-15 degrees below the normal mean average for late April. Incredible! What a gift from Mother Nature!! The deep upper level trough over the Eastern CONUS will bring us quite the chill for late April. Tomorrow morning temps will be in the upper 40s inland to low 50s most other areas in North Florida. Highs tomorrow in Jax will barely reach 70 degrees! Low temp on Easter Sunday morning will drop down in many North Florida interior spots down into the low to mid 40s with lighter wind .

Get out and enjoy this splendid weather before the summer muggies and long hot days truly set in for good!

Have a Happy Easter everyone!!!
