Well, the 12Z NAM is onboard with a large chunk of North Texas getting 2+ inches of rain through Friday.

Re: Texas Spring 2019
Its so nice to look at the Lake Travis water levels for the last year or so and see a nice smooth line at pool or around it. Ever since I moved you guys in Tejas have been getting somewhat good amounts of rainfall.
By the way and of an interesting note: I was reading the Harvard Study about overshooting storms in the Great Plains and their role in Ozone depletion and communication between the Troposphere and Stratosphere. Apparently, they grossly underestimated the number of storms that overshoot.

What's the difference between the NAM 12km and the NAM 3km? Is one better for rain than the other?

It’s the distance between horizontal forecast grid points. Hence, 3km is higher resolution than 12km.

Re: Texas Spring 2019
Classic flood setup here in Houston today. Seems to be a dry boundary over the top of the city. Air coming in off the gulf is colliding with this boundary causing these huge storms and their movement to be so lackluster. Could be a long night.

Re: Texas Spring 2019
I actually think today is one of those rare days where a boundary wasn't in play, at least initially. Today's heaviest rains were concentrated in very specific areas where dominant storms developed and acquired broad rotation. According to Bunkers, a rotating right moving cell would be quasi-stationary today.

Re: Texas Spring 2019
Very possible, nice information. I noticed a clash of dry/humid airmasses between the 400-700mb layers over Houston. Winds are coming in off of the GOM, the humid air and slightly drier air are colliding overtop of us. Hope everyone stays dry!
Feel free to correct my analysis! I was looking at the GFS 400-700 mb chart to ascertain this.

And this is only the first of many rounds of heavy rain across southeast TX today. It's going to be a long week. Some areas could end up getting 20 inches from this event.

Nice thunderstorms this evening here in Austin today too. Not at all to the scale of Houston area. Some areas in SETX have seen 11" +

What I experienced today at my job was the craziest rainstorm I’ve ever experienced. Worse than Harvey.

Boy I tell you what, if this is any sign of things to come this week, it’s going to be something else.

Crazy weather day across Texas!
For DFW, HiRes guidance points to pretty widespread 2-4" totals across the area late tonight and into tomorrow.

Re: Texas Spring 2019
There's a cold pool across Houston now, probably from one of the earlier supercells (I'd guess the north side/Kingwood one). Now it's acting as a boundary focusing rain on the south side of town.

Texas is a big state and the Panhandle might as well be another state but it's not often you see a Tornado Watch for Wichita Falls and Flooding in Houston on the same evening.
