Re: Florida Weather
Looks like another hit incoming as the seabreezes meet near the gulf coast. southwesterly flow next week will favor the other side of the state. Tons of lightning again today in these storms. we are at peak lightning climo and it looks like it

Re: Florida Weather
Just had a line of severe thunderstorms associated with the sea breeze collisions push through my area of Vinoy St. Petersburg! Wind gusts of 59 mph at Albert whitted airport downtown st Pete- tons of rain and lightning, pea sized hail, and street flooding! It was like a hurricane or strong tropical storm for about 30 minutes.
I got video of an intense microburst with winds over 60 MPH.

Re: Florida Weather
I'm not sure how to feel about the potential for tropical cyclone development to take place in the upcoming week over the east coast of the state. Does anyone else care to weigh in?

Re: Florida Weather
Any vorticity in that area of the North Atlantic basin.in the vicinity of the Bahamas must need careful monitoring for potential TC development.
Right now it is at a slight chance of development the next 5 days (20%). However, this could change as 94L gets farther west closer to the Florida peninsula. Just monitor closely with us and the latest from NHC.

Re: Florida Weather
Another big convective day is on tap weighted toward the western side of the peninsula. Should see more pulse severe near and just downwind of the big boundary collisions later on with numerous hefty storms

Outstanding depiction of what I refer to as the "car wash" effect. Storm season is the most wonderful time of the year for the weather geek. Everyday it just reloads and someone gets that type of a storm

Thank you! I’m expecting another round of strong to severe sea breeze enhanced thunderstorms this afternoon. If we get a tropical storm out of the system nearing the Bahamas that will further enhance our rain chances- looks like last year’s Gordon in terms of track and strengths

Re: Florida Weather
Up here in northeast Florida/southeast Georgia, we've had quite a few severe storms as well over the last ten days or so. I think three or four of them ended up passing over my immediate area, including one that produced some large hail and a particularly nasty one with 70+ mph winds and (evidently) weak rotation last week.
The weather is probably only gonna get more interesting this upcoming week. In a way, it's a love-hate relationship that I have with this type of weather, as it is really interesting to me, but at the same time, I'm not dying to experience it myself when I am driving through the middle of nowhere.

Re: Florida Weather
Lots to monitor the next few days. A potential very heavy rain event is looming beginning tomorrow for many across all of North and Central Florida. Stationary front will be draped across North Florida beginning tomorrow. In addition, could see Low Pressure entity form on tail end of that frontal boundary in the GOM next couple of days. This could have a major impact on our area IF this materializes.
Bottom Line: At the very least , we will get a lot of rain these next few days and potentially, we could get even more substantial rain late this week as all moisture from a potential Gulf Low would stream east /northeast across our region.

Re: Florida Weather
Jackpot today In St. Petersburg - 3 rounds of storms each with gusty winds- round 3 had a severe thunderstorm warning and the winds were howling at 50 to 60 mph. Lots of gusts of 40 to 55 mph were recorded on the local storm reports. Going to get pummeled again tonight I’m very excited!

Re: Florida Weather
Reports from the NWS Jax office that up to 5 inches of rainfall has occured over in portions of Columbia, Suwanee and Lafayette Counties in the Suwanee River Valley and around the I-75 and I-10 corridors in North Florida.
Here at the home station, total rainfall through 7p.m. this evening judt under 2 and 1/4 inches. More rain will move in later this evening into the overnight, and we do it all over again tomorrow with widespread rain, some of it very heavy.
There is too much shear and dry continental air has infiltrated into the Northern GOM as the deep upper trough as pushed the frontal boundary deep down to the Central Gulf and stalled across North Florida. This should prevent any type of hybrid/subtropical/teopical development in the GOM for the time being.
The ridge is forecast to build back across the region beginning Friday. The prevailing flow will go from southwesterly and shift back to east-southeast with the ridge building back in across North Florida by the start of the weekend. We will return back to our normal summer pattern by this weekend with scattered afternoon thunderstorms iinstead of the widespread heavy rain we had today and again on Thursday.

Re: Florida Weather
Yeah, this was quite a day. My area saw at least four inches of rain. If we want to get specific, areas around Fruit Cove and Green Cove Springs were measured to have gotten 4.44 and 4.79 inches of rain this afternoon, respectively. An areal flood warning was issued for my immediate area just as I arrived there this afternoon during my drive home from school.

Re: Florida Weather
It's rare for a cold front of this scale to reach Florida this time of year. It's also nice to have rain to cool things off and not worry about drought, but man it might be a little too much at one time. I'm back (at least for a few days). I didn't get to post much on this year's hurricane season's storms so far, but I've been on the site checking in on things. The reason for my absence is that I've been busy preparing to join the Air Force. Didn't score high enough to get Weather on the ASVAB test, but I'm still planning to go for it in the long run. I ship out this next Tuesday.

It's become so ridiculous......most days, the east coast sea breeze is too strong and the convection is far away. Then it finally flips and then the westerly flow is too strong and we still don't get convection. There was a good storm here on Tuesday, but honestly that is all I've seen over the past couple weeks.
