I wish George Winterling still did hurricane forecasting here in the JAX area.
We have some decent mets, but none like George.

George Winterling is a LEGEND here and an IDOL for me in.weather forecasting in the Jacksonville area. He inspired me to be in this business as a small boy and into my teenaged years..He is famous, for those not familiar with him on this forum, of correctlynand accrately predicting Hurricane Dora's Sept 1964 rare direct landfall here from the east He is a great guy and knows weather like no one's business. I have met him numerous times, including an occasion when he visited with met students during my time at Floroa State, his alma mater. He is retired now, but maybe he may drop in at WJXT TV-4 and share his thoughts about Dorian.

We looked at coral boulders atop 20 foot cliffs on the eastern tip of the island and tried to figure out if hurricane waves could move them. Determined it would take a decent hurricane to generate sufficient surge and wave activity to reach the tops of those cliffs and move boulders. Definitely going to be watching beach webcams anyway while there's any light tonight and tomorrow morning.

I hope you got some time for sight seeing, It's a beautiful island.

Yeah we did luckily. We had some other research days that involved looking at uplifted corals around the island, and one day diving and looking at live reefs on the west coast. Got to see a whole lot of the island, really amazing place.

This is hilarious. But in all seriousness I think certain proMets make their money by not causing undue alarm for their paying customers. This is big incentive to be accurate and not overhype a storm too early.

Which radar are you looking at? I don't see much on Barbados site.

I use the actual Martinique site. the color schema is horrible. but the functionality is better.

It's for the colorblind folks (I actually don't know that but wouldn't it be nice)

I dont think its for colorblind folks cause I am colorblind and the spaghetti plots always give me fits, and everything on that radar looks like different shades of some bluish color

Just had the most amazing yet weird sunset I have ever saw. We get some brilliant ones in Barbados but this one the yellow light was scattered really intensely and it was almost like wearing yellow shades. Yellow light practically fully replaced all the white light everywhere. That was an experience.

Stay safe down there! It's a beautiful island and I'm ready to go back.

Now let's watch the trek through Hispaniola...

Puerto Rico's governor has signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency ahead of the expected arrival of Dorian.
