Euro shoes no Florida central hit. I think we here in the Tampa, are as close to being clear as possible. Until it turns, of course anything is possible.

36 hours for warnings and 48 for a watch. so generally watches go to warnings 2 advisories after issuance.

Hurrilurker wrote:I don't see how they can be blamed for setting a hurricane watch (not warning) for the Florida EC in the morning, it's entirely warranted. Just enough to make sure everyone there is paying attention if they weren't already. And considering the difficulty of escaping a storm on the peninsula, a little more time is justified even if it's over the typical 48 hours.

Many people in smaller, rural parts of FL, many near St. John's River especially - switched from panic to, "it's totally going to bypass us today". I really hope they're right. If they're wrong, I hope the NHC updates ASAP & lets them know as many aren't super wealthy, and are returning generators etc. as they ::feel:: that they've been given the all-clear. Just my 2 cents from a very small town off of the river...

Hurricane warnings are 24 hours out. I know the geography is scary close, but the timing would be 48 hrs+?

Side note, Martin County said no evacuations for the County this evening...

Yeah I didn't think much of that. If not Dorian, people are gonna eventually learn to not make calls like that.

Tropical Storm warnings.... sheesh.

Irma hit where I'm at as a Cat 1/TS - indirect, not head-on landfall. My nextdoor neighbor was without power for over 10 days...You don't need a direct hit for major issues, especially when you have little ones.

So the eyewall of Dorian is about to cross 76’ west. According to my calculations, the center is only about 28 miles from 76’3” west which is the 11 AM longitude plot. If it’s going about 10 MPH it’s gonna obliterate the plot point... or is my math offf? It’s late...

We would be on the west side which of course is the weaker side regardless it models stay steady. There would probably be no need for anything more than hurricane watches north of Palm Beach County tomorrow if that.

Most likely just wobbles, models actually have him turning more westward today as the ridging continues to build so we'll see.

Well... weaker winds and less rain, but depending on where the storm might approach, storm surge could still be a serious issue? I'm not an expert. At least the small size of the storm means it's not pushing as much water as monsters like Katrina or Ike

Gonzo Is sampling the ridge right now, it possible to draw any conclusions from the data they are finding compared to the models?

Yes you would be on the weaker side of the storm, but the storm would also be drifting 60 miles offshore (according to Euro) I don’t see how that would not justify at the very least a hurricane watch, one wobble to the left and hurricane force winds are onshore.
