If this was posted by anyone else I would be cracking up with laughter. But since it's you... is that even possible? I know hurricanes are heat-exchangers, but that just seems ridiculous. The latent heat of fusion of water (for the phase change from 0 celcius water to 0 celcius ice) is 334 joules per gram. That is three times more than is needed to cool the water from 27 degrees to 0 degrees celcius (27 * 4.184 J/g = 112.968 J/g).

Honestly, doesn't pass the sniff test.

In terms of a physical science perspective it makes sense, of course very extreme result of conservation but 185 mph is extreme, i.e. for any action there is an equal an opposite reaction.

This is actually quite interesting and kind of speaks to the importance of considering the ocean depth as a boundary condition within the PDEs which explain the underlying mathematics which create all the gfs, euro etc models. I'm not so sure if the ice thing is real but definitely think the shallow waters had major effect here... I know in past a correlation of shallower water & small storms RI has been observed, and I wonder if we now have an illustration of mega storm rapidly de intensity in shallow?

OR, it could just be a joke, as WXman57 posted in an earlier comment.

Yeah think the ice is a joke but interesting physics for my mind this morning ( I'm a research guy )

Eye wall reorganizing a bit as seen on this radar? https://apps.sfwmd.gov/sfwmd/common/ima ... flanim.gif

Edit: By reorganizing, more like disrupted, and sorting itself out

According to this tweet, he has been reported missing. The rescue team supposedly came through the location he was at but made no contact with him.

If anything looks like it is getting a little less organized to me. It is still sitting over upwelled waters. Likely won't see any improvement until he decides to move. The idea that this will be a 'naked swirl' in 24 hours as someone else mentioned is ludicrous and irresponsible though.

Convection seems to be filling in on the west side of the storm again as well. EC of Florida should be seeing more bands more frequently

As long as shear isn't too strong there's no reason why Dorian can't reintensify. He's also going to be traveling near the gulf stream.

I think once he gets further away from the Bahamas we'll see reorganization. The 24+ hours of stalling and upwelling did a huge number on him. The waters around him are colder than waters off of northern New England.

I hope you’re right. I know guys will keep chasing storms but riding out a strong cat 5 on an island with almost no elevation can’t be the best idea.

I can’t tell If it’s wobbled west or it’s just the eye opening up on the western side...

While that tweet is a little concerning Josh probably just moved from his location and is helping people out who need it. I suspect he is ok.

Sheep need to educate themselves on hurricanes if they live in hurricane prone areas. Plain and simple. There is always going to be complainers. Also the ones who whine about missing a show because a tornado warning had to be broadcast during it. I'm so sick and tired of sheeple trying to play victim about hurricanes and try to blame other people for the grief. They sure knew how to educate themselves on how to buy the new popeyes chicken sandwhich when that was released  But one cannot simply understand a spaghetti model or the cone of uncertainty...

Referring to human beings as "sheep" and "sheeple" is offensive IMO and has no place on this board.

I do not know if this is appropriate, so please mods remove it if it isn't (and please forgive me if I'm adding to your workload with this). I know many of us have a huge weight on our hearts looking at what transpires from the Bahamas. If you're willing to help, there's a group on facebook called Abaco Relief, organized by the S Fl fishing community, people with a huge heart, who have in the past successfully organized relief missions for different humanitarian needs. Good friends know them; they are putting all their names and phone numbers there so people can call them directly if they need to. They know what they are doing, and how to get things over. They are collecting both goods, and money (to help with transportation costs). Their first ship leaves Saturday. On their fb page, you will find the drop off locations, along with lists of what is needed. Side Note: it is on this page that names of people who've been found are posted, and I have to say I also saw Josh Morgerman's name as one of the disappeared, yet to be found, person. Lord have mercy!
