That pressure recording did not make sense in the context of the surrounding ones from that HDOB. It looks like it's continuing to strengthen around its normal pace over the last couple of hours which puts it around 958-959 right now. Guess we'll wait and see what the center fix says.

Yes, I agree. MSLP is ~958mb based on recon.

Looks like the storm is getting stretched, north to south. Is that from the oncoming trough?

I think Dorian has a decent chance to make a solid landfall in North Carolina as a 95-100 knot storm.

The eye looks way tighter on the satellite, less so on the IR though

I'm not a meteorologist, I'm an electronics engineer. While I can probably fix your toaster oven, you're not going to learn about storms from me!

New Mexico had no hurricanes. Then I moved to NC right before Fran.....

I'm in Atlanta and just had a friend from Canada text me hoping I was safe from the storm.... you'd never know a landmark hurricane is so close... hot, clear and dry here. Also, geography just isn't most people's thing.

There's a happy face in Dorian's eye. He's trolling us all.

I've heard of late-season storms moving through the NE like Sandy that occasionally bring some white stuff but this is a first for Florida

If the new normal is for hurricanes to be on that stuff maybe it will cancel out the increase in stalling?

I was gonna say earlier that the advisory a few hours ago had Dorian moving NNW still but I figured maybe they hadn't caught up to the recent movement. 8 PM update still has it moving NNW so the NE turn still hasn't started yet. It did a wobble a few hours ago at that time that made it seem like it was starting to turn NNE.

Crazy how quiet this thread is considering we could have a landfalling major hurricane in the CONUS tomorrow night.

Dorian looking healthy tonight, looks like she partially won the battle against dry air?
Also, for areas like Jax, is the circulation strong enough to pull the seas out just like Irma did to Tampa?
