Looking for some thoughts

#1 Postby janswizard » Thu Oct 23, 2003 7:27 pm

If Iran is another country that is sitting on huge reserves of natural energy (oil), why would they want to spend billions to build nuclear plants, purportedly for energy concerns?

At the same time, if we, in the west, have shortages of natural energy and have developed nuclear energy to help fill that void, why are we so insistent that other countries not do the same?

And thirdly, since several other countries have also developed both nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, how is it that we trust countries like China, Russia, and France not to use those weapons but are so mistrustful of other nations who are trying to do the same?

Not looking for an argument, would just like some food for thought.

In regards to your third question, my opinion is that the trust comes from the fact that we have good diplomatic relations with those countries and we all have a mutual goal for having those weapons in our possession -- defense.

When leaders of other nations openly threaten our country and our people with their desire to "kill all the infidels," then their motivation for having weapons is the opposite -- offense. The same holds true for when leaders of other nations support extremist religious leaders who lead attacks on our country and countrymen outside our country.
