Crazy Canadian thinks DFW is on the verge of a freeze overnight Friday. Interesting to see if it continues this trend like it has the past few days, as it seems both the GFS and Euro are trending slightly colder as well (albeit 10 degrees warmer than CMC)

Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful Fall weather (finally!). Lord knows we have suffered enough with the Endless Summer of 2019.

A couple weeks back, I believe Ntxw spoke of recurving typhoons and how if they are strong enough, they can play havoc with the models and perhaps portend colder air for us. I am curious what he and the rest of y'all are thinking about Typhoon Hagibis? Could this one be a game changer for us?

This coming weekend looks wonderful, too, weatherwise. Those going to the Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl will have classic football weather. And down here, Weekend 2 for the ACL Festival should be ideal.

Does anyone know what the current timing of the front Thursday night in north Texas is? I know it will change, but I really have no clue if golf Friday morning in Dallas will be any fun. Hopefully the cold nature pushes it through quicker than it currently projected to at least get the showers out of the area. Thoughts?

Agreed. Finally some fall weather. An annoying humid, 90 degree day precedes the next front unfortunately but it will be worth it. Gosh darnit, I want some rain with the next cool down.

I have been curious about the frost potential of the upcoming front. I plan to get back into my forecasting mode this week after a long summer break.

Billings, MT has a forecast high tomorrow of 71, dropping to 26 Tuesday night, and not get above freezing till the weekend with lows around 10.

That's NUTS. That would throw off the air pressure in your tires! A lot of people are going to get tire pressure warning lights going off in their vehicles.lol

They definitely have more weather extremes in that part of the country.

We talk about Texas how it can snow in one part of the state and have tornadoes in the other.

Well, growing up in Kansas, I often remembered that happening in a much smaller state. The weather changes on a dime.

I like that Texas is warmer in winter usually, but I also want some dang snow this year. If my wife would let me and the neighbors would not complain to the HOA, I would buy a snowmaking machine.

It's probably too soon for there to be major impacts in terms of cold. Source region can't produce yet, plus not all re-curving typhoons generate dramatic downstream effects. It will probably re-enforce more frontal passages.

Now the news story will continue to be the end of this week. There will be some dramatic (for October) temperature falls. From 80s to 40s for some in the northern parts of the state on one side of the front and shortly to the other side, and likewise for central TX (80s to 50s) quickly after frontal passage. That's a very dramatic temperature drop.

Yeah i agree. Not much cold in the source region, plus many parts of the Beufort sea and all of the Bering sea is completely water right now. Not much cold coming down from that. I'll take the lower dewpoint cold front for now though.

After staring into the abyss and thinking about some of the dynamics at play, I'm beginning to be a bit more optimistic with this winter being not only cold but possibly tapping into some moisture off the coast of Mexico if the troughs can dig west of us. I'll post a more detailed post about what im thinking later, but tonights front has me even more excited.

Looks like Friday is a midnight high kinda day with daytime highs struggling to reach the 50s across the northern half of the state. For DFW, it looks like 80 at midnight and 45 by sunrise Friday morning with lows 50s for the afternoon. Possible frost for cold spots Saturday morning.

Check out the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect of Dallas-Fort Worth this evening! Temperatures in the outlying areas have already fallen into the 50s to low 60s while in the concrete jungle of Dallas, it is still near 70 or even a little warmer. The UHI is not quite as pronounced in Fort Worth, but it is there nonetheless.

A recent climate study revealed that the NW corner of Dallas County has temperatures more closely resembling that of San Antonio rather than the rest of north Texas !
