Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
Still not seeing anything to support wxman57's claim of a Warm Christmas.
Lows in the low 40s and highs in the mid 50s. Extremely seasonal around these parts.
We do get some cold air leading up to Christmas per the Canadian and GFS.
Euro is seasonal at the end of the run with highs in the 50s. (Through 12/19)

Just depends on if it’s actually reaching the ground at this point. There are still some returns going on over north DFW that have been there since 7 A.M. but very little if none have produced anything. That could very well change though
The DFW returns are weak so maybe the heavier stuff SW will produce.

Chances for any snow in the D-FW area are looking pretty slim through December. The pattern doesn't look right aloft. Meanwhile, just a spattering of rain across Houston today. Last rain over 0.1" was on Nov. 7th.

I concur with our resident heat-loving, cycling-enthusiast meteorologist. This pattern is too progressive for legitimate wintry weather chances for most of us. Quick cold shots and then warm ups.
We really need MORE rain down here in south central Texas as drought conditions continue. Some talk of a Nina in the spring and I'm worried that little rainfall now will make for a tinderbox of dried vegetation in a few months. Could be a bad wildfire season.

I feel bad for you North Texas folks, the last time you had some legit snow was when I was a senior in high school lol. I think their may have been some small events in between that were isolated. I seem to remember some type of lake enhanced snow on one of my college breaks(may have been December 2016) then there was the light icing last winter and I got some nice pics. I might be more of a wintry magnet than I thought.
Anyways we've seen patterns completely flip in January and February before, so don't lose hope!

12z GFS shows a major winter storm across TX late next week. Doesn't have much ensemble support so I'm sceptical...

My family and I would have to drive through that on our way up to DC as it advanced east.

Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?

I would love that forecast leading up to Christmas. While I might see a pellet/flake or two, I'd love low to mid 20s to kick off Christmas week in Montgomery County.

My family and I would have to drive through that on our way up to DC as it advanced east. There's pretty consistently been a storm around that time frame, this is the first time it's shown this solution though.
Yikes.... That would be 36 hours of winter weather around here. Would not be a good ride for you.

Yep, when you start seeing 480 thicknesses showing up in Minnesota look out below....but as you mentioned, GEFS no support showing a ridge over Minnesota during same time frame! At least they're beautiful maps to look at

Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
Long-time lurker here, been waiting for a winter event to occur for several years now. That 12z GFS would likely be crippling since the ice is falling while temperatures are sub 30 and they stay below 32 for what 36 hours?
