Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
All this talk of when it used to get cold just warms my heart. I'm not seeing much of any pattern change through the end of January. May get another line of storms around the 27-28. Upper low passes farther north, though, so any snow that might develop beneath it may impact Oklahoma. Even after January, there are still a good 6 weeks of winter where Texas might possibly see some winter weather. Meanwhile, time to get outside and enjoy the warm air.

You got it! I remember back in February of 1986 when the temperature hit the low 90s. I was laying out by the pool (and even swimming) and enjoying the "winter".

Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
local forecast seems to have trended lower with the highs this weekend and next week, looks like we'll be starting the week off in the upper 40's for highs Monday and Tuesday. The 7 day forecast keeps high's in the upper 40's to mid 50's, lows in the mid/upper 30s.
High temperatures on Saturday will
likely range from the mid 50s in the north to mid 60s in the
south. Continued cool conditions are expected Sunday as additional
cold air advection keeps highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s.
With high pressure settling in across the region Sunday night and
Monday, fairly quiet weather will continue through the first few
days of the new work week. Highs are expected to remain in the 40s
and 50s, and lows will dip to the upper 20s to lower 30s both Sunday
and Monday night. As high pressure begins to move out of the
region Tuesday night, low rain chances will begin creeping in
from the west as a weak shortwave moves along the Red River. Given
the lack of instability, thunder is unlikely Tuesday and
Wednesday.
A much stronger trough is forecast to arrive by the latter half
of next week, but guidance is continuing to struggle on both the
timing and amplitude of the trough. Global guidance varies by as
much as 500 miles in the placement of the trough, affecting the
timing of the greatest precipitation chances. Additionally,
smaller scale features that could have large implications in the
strength of convective updrafts are unknown at this time. For now,
will maintain area wide showers and thunderstorms Wednesday
afternoon through Friday with temperatures around seasonal
normals.

Not sure about SE Texas but here in North Texas there has been no bell, just a bar!!! 3 Deg F above Normal for Dec 2019 and so far in Jan 2020 6.5 Deg F above Normal, lowest temp so far is a pathetic 27 Deg F. Going on Half a Decade of almost non-existent winters around here, depressing!
Our state is cursed. I seriously am considering moving to Denver later in life. I hope I get the opportunity. Near tornado alley with blizzards in April. Love it.
Harris, I wouldn’t suggest that. I wouldn’t suggest anyone move to where conditions would be more favorable for storms, etc.. reason why is because then you would expect it and when you expect something then it’s not really a big deal when it happens. It would be a 100x more exciting to experience a snowstorm in Austin, TX than anywhere in Colorado.

Don’t forget that most of NTX has had winter weather this year. Even when it didn’t look good for a while. Don’t give up hope when there’s still time left. This winter, weather wise, has been the best one this decade!

Yeah but I might not be alive when it happens next in Austin. It’s been 16 years since we’ve seen 1.6” of snow. 26 since the last 2”+ snow

Interesting tweet by Ryan Maue comparing the 12Z EC ensembles temperature anomaly forecast for Jan 25-26 (next weekend) from 4 days ago and again today. Just goes to show that you can't even trust the ensembles' forecast beyond the next 3-5 days.

The warmer look actually matches up with -PNA MJO Phase 5 lags.

Idk about that. I spend a ton of time in Colorado during the winter and every snow storm is just as exciting as the one before it. Watching snow pile up 2 ft is something we will never experience here. Def move up north.

My youngest is a sophomore in high school and oldest a sophomore in college. My wife and I plan to move to Colorado Springs at some point in the future. We’re thinking in the next 5-8 years. But we’re not moving for snow. It’s more about moving to enjoy what we like in the outdoors.

CMC shows some bottled up Canadian air come down south but there is no Jet stream. Any winter precip will most likely be freezing rain at best.

Summer's for hibernation, Winter’s my vacation
Don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?
All observations I post are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
Well, a week changes a lot around here. We probably will have a cold March and April when it won’t do any good and hurt severe weather season. Enjoy another winter that’s a non-event. Kansas has at least had a few events, but the core of OK is still just as cursed as us. They used to get several big storms a year. Just don’t know what has happened.
