Looks like DFW could end January with only 4 freezes with the avg being 12.... Has DFW seen it's last freeze of the winter already?

Winter time post are almost exclusively focused on the DFW area.

Only 34 for the coldest in Houston. Last freeze of the winter in DFW is unlikely, but it doesn't look like you'll see anything close to freezing over the next week. Probably no freeze through the first week of February. But there are still about 2 months after then where you could see a freeze.

doubtful, I'd imagine those extreme anomalies in Alaska will propagate towards the lower 48 at some point...but man, the MJO Phase 6 is just killing us right now. Need a big SOI burst to bust up the warm SST in Nino 4!

I’m just glad it’s raining again in southeast TX.

I think it's been fairly obvious that ever since the ol weather witch from Saskatchewan disappeared the Heat Miser has had his way with the control of cold in Canada. We're going to need to send someone up there to plant large fans on his wall to funnel the cold back through the central U.S.

Well, after all this talk of last freeze of the season and my own early view of spring growth, I saw this local article which talks about Spring leaves.

Well now it looks like we’re gonna dry out the next couple weeks for most of the state. CPC took us out of the above average rainfall and now has us below average rainfall.

I don't want to say this, but I went to the park today and I notice that huisaches, ash trees, etc, are already blooming way before the start of spring, an indication that winter is already ending, so R.I.P winter 2019-20, at least these last days were weet, I'm very thankful for the rain I got in my house

After it finished raining today I went out to get the mail and noticed how the lawn is already becoming much greener and filling in along with the red maple, azaleas, roses, and camellias are already blooming. Winter around here is done. Well what little of it that we had anyway

Haha ya'll are just tempting winter now. We haven't gotten to the peak of the season yet. Heck the PV split is just now really underway and even if that ends up being Eurasian focused as it appears we still have a cold NW North America and and fairly consistent STJ. When the -EPO ridge builds back we will see some fun. I still say the 3 weeks after Valentine's Day should be the focus though we will likely have several more small winter events before then as we have seen recently.

Re: Texas Winter 2019-2020
We do know that trees/flowers blooming is just a sign of previous warmth, right?
It does not mean the weather pattern cannot change to cold. If it does, it will kill off the new growth/blooms. I see no signs of blowtorch warmth in the future. However, I do see an active STJ with periodic shots of cold coming down. We just need the timing to be right if we want winter weather to materialize here in the Southern Plains/Southeast.

Well, the rain and cool weather has been nice. But I guess all good things must come to an end.
Here's looking forward to the next cool rain event!
Happy Friday!

Well sure don’t see anything that makes me think the pattern will change to cold anytime soon. Looked at all the long range model runs and not sure where you are seeing periodic cold shots coming down. Nothing even remotely close to being cold for the south. The closest I see the freezing line getting to down here is way up in northern Arkansas.

Surprised there’s no chatter about the front the Euro and GFS are both showing in 9 to 10 days.

If it's dry, then there is your answer.
