Heh. Take it from someone who grew up in Harvey on the Westbank, and had to drive home during the ice/sleet/snow that happened in December 1989; NOLA would shutdown and no one would make it there to enjoy your gumbo. But if you throw in some Leidenheimer french bread, I may be tempted to try.

Well, at least this time there is another Gulf low with sufficient cold air in place. We are getting lots of Gulf lows but too warm. I'm sure this is a tease. But for right now, it's been consistently show mid February to be cold.

10" for me, lock it in! Looks like temps are just barely cold enough for heavy snow to fall but our last 2 legitimate all snow accumulations occurred at 31-32 degrees (2008 and 2017.) Yet we've had more freezing rain sleet events in recent years with temps in the mid 20's (Jan 2018) . I just hope February can provide us with seasonally cool weather, I am so not ready for the heat and humidity to return yet.

Interestingly the GFS still has a snow storm at 18z. However it's faster and further north. A far more likely scenario. However, If it's right about a potential Gulf low forming around that time frame with cold air filtering behind it then who knows what could happen.

The 18z had snow up in Arkansas, the system was also much weaker. I wouldn't worry too much about location though. I'd just watch to see if the GFS continues to put out a storm in the January 6-8th time frame and if other models jump on board within 240 hours.

the Euro tries to show a storm too... never really goes but has some flurries/very light snow in the western DFW metro and also around Austin

NWS added a little bit of snow to my forecast for Tuesday night. Will it happen? Probably not, but nice to see with the 0 winter this year.

Really liking the look of the latest AAM plots....going through one of the highest (Nino) AAM orbits in months just in time for February and possibly setting up the mother of all 1-2-3 transitions. These phases can be significantly cold for Feb/March across the lower 48. Just hoping this will be enough to relax the strong westerlies that have dominated the pattern lately. I would hope we'd get a greater chance of amplification into these cold phases moving forward. Finally something to look forward to around here....

I think it's time we all accept the fact that Texas now has 2 seasons - Fall, which lasts for about 4.5 months, and Summer, which takes up the other 7.5 months. Winter is dead.
