Jasper got very lucky. It appears to be a very destructive tornado over Newton County about to move into LA.

I’m not so sure. That hook literally passed right over the northern side of Jasper and you could even see a debris ball at times.

If it was on the ground in Jasper it was weak. The vort tightened right back up a couple miles east of town with an impressive debris ball soon after. Over Jasper the debris was not well defined.

So yesterday was a very unremarkable day in dfw, fortunately. It could have been hell yesterday had the cap broke, and Oklahoma and SE Texas are evidence of that.

Shoutout to Ntxw for his explanation of the bust potential in this area, spot on. Also, go check out Pecos Hank’s video of the Madill, OK tornado yesterday.

Very lucky it was not a few hundred miles south. The line of cells in Oklahoma basically all put out tornadoes and would have been bad in the metroplex had it happened. Given the circumstances going on folks here don't need to deal with more problems for their business and homes.

Unfortunate for those to the north and southeast. Just a glance at the images/footage out of the Lake Livingston area so far I've seen EF3 like damage. They are surveying out there today so HGX will give more updates.

Too close for comfort yesterday afternoon here in northern Grayson County as the bottom end storm in that line produced a funnel cloud near Pottsboro and a wall cloud near Denison Dam. The latter was visible from my house and that storm later produced a tornado touchdown in Lamar County.

Also a brief tornado touchdown near Lake Durant, you may have seen the two storm chaser videos of it including one with the tornado, some hail, and a rainbow. That was only a few hundred yards from a friend’s house.

Sad what happened in Madill with the two fatalities. That’s right across Lake Texoma about a half hour northwest of Denison. Just saw that Norman NWS has given that tornado a preliminary rating of at least EF-2.

I was thinking about that earlier... if it had been 2 hours south there could have easily been 3 or 4 tornadic/big hail producers on top of the metro at rush hour(not that rush hour is normal right now but still) :double:

definitely not upset that busted

tomorrow has a marginal in the metro and a slight NE of the metro

Dang, then I guess my prediction I had of an EF-3 was true. Earlier I read a couple of different articles that had it rated as an EF-2.

It takes some time to verify EF3+ damage and even longer for EF4/EF5. The images we see of total destruction is usually EF3 or high end EF3. It also requires some crazy vegetation scouring and/or with well built structures with significant damage to get to EF4/EF5. That's usually the factor that can lag is determining whether a structure was well built. This is harder to do in rural areas with no so strict codes. That's why the EF5s usually are the ones that graze inner towns or bigger cities, simply there are more structures there to verify, not that they occur more often.

It looks like today's storms won't fire until the front is just east of DFW.

...Near Record Breaking Temperatures Expected Today...

A generally dry and stable airmass in place over Deep South Texas
today will allow for plenty of sunshine across the region today.
This will drive the afternoon high temperatures up to near record
breaking levels for the Rio Grande Valley.

Elevated surface humidity levels will also combine with the
record breaking temperature values to produce afternoon heat index
readings reaching into the 102 to 106 range.

Drink plenty of water...before you get thirsty. Wear lightweight
and light colored clothing. Reserve strenuous exercise for early
morning or evening hours. Stay in air conditioned locations if
possible.

Sad but true. We'll likely have to wait until May for the wet pattern to hopefully return.
