Listening to emergency radio currently. Lots of downed trees and power lines down in the Waycross area. Also nickel-,sized hail has completely covered the ground up in Pierce County, GA,. Tbe damage reports are still coming in currently. This is just the first wave of severe weather coming across currently. There will be another fierce round of dtorms developing actoss North and Northeast Florida late this aftermoon and continuing into the evening. I definitely expect Tornado Watches to be expanded south and eastward shortly.

A training thunderstorm flash flood threat may develop over north florida...in addition to some svr risk as air lifts up and over that boundary. It's 90 and humid here...with a boatload of wind. So for the 3rd time since Easter Sunday...those of us below the fray are feeding in hot and humid fuel into the fire on a stout south wind

Meanwhile look at the southward kink in the line moving through the panhandle (presently near the FL/GA/AL confluence. this is probably going to continue ripping just south of east with time with an attendant severe risk residing just south of the rain cooled outflow now in the vicinity of I-10 and slowly sagging south. It's not hard to imagine an enhanced severe risk running just south of I-10 with time...perhaps coming up on Gainesville and eventually emerging off the coasts somewhere in the vicinity of St John's/Flagler or Volusia counties later on...hopefully less severe than what extreme south GA just experienced..but definitely worth watching carefully up that way..

The tornadic storms that took place in southeast GA this afternoon looked devastating. In addition to the aforementioned one that traveled directly through Waycross, a second strong tornado touched down further east (Camden/Glynn County near I-95). NWS Jacksonville issued multiple PDS tornado warnings this afternoon.

Additional tornadoes have been touching down further west in FL within the last hour or so as the line makes its way through the panhandle, big bend, and southwestern/south-central Georgia.

Tornado watches are now in effect for almost all of north-central and northeastern Florida, bar Marion County and Flagler County.

This is what I always have deep concerns in potential severe weather events like we are seeing now. The next squall line as Psyclone accurately indicated in his post just prior to Arekkusu is well underway over in the Big Bend area and now moving east along I-10 corridor. It is this severe weather which could bring hail and possible tornadoes across North and Northeast Florida the rest of this evening.into the early morning hours Friday. I always worry about severe weather occuring during the dark!! I just realy hope everyone across the area stays on extreme heightened alert and heed the warnings when they are issued. This is the perfect time to pull out those NOAA Weather Radios for those who have them. They are always still excellent tools to have to monitor alerts and warnings for severe weather and tornadoes, especually if you are asleep, and especially at night!!!

I am up and will be working late into the night monitoring the situation closely.

Holy crap NE FL. This system is the southern twin of the earlier Georgia system...run one step lower in latitude. Get ready up there for this one...

Squall line has just crossed the Suwannee River Valley and extends northeast into South Georgia. This line is approaching the I-75 corridor in North Florida on the southern end of.the squall line. It will be approaching Lake City very shortly and also the Gainesville area as well. Hail very possible with these storms. I have yet to detect rotation on individual cells but that could change quickly.

Looks like the squal line is intensifying as lightning strikes have really picked up on the southern end of the line. It is moving through Lake City now and will move into Gsinesville in about 15-20 minutes. This squall line looks to reach the Greater Jax metro area within the next 45 minutes or so.

EDIT: Tornado Warning for Bradford County and Union County, just east of Lake City near Lake Butler. Just issued. Posdible tornado near Lake Butler.

Getting some gusty winds and rain here from a strong thunderstorm. The thunderstorm had previously been tornado-warned, but thankfully, it dissipated a little before reaching my immediate area.

The people to my west weren't so lucky, though. If I recall correctly, this particular cell tracked east all the way from the big bend.

As usual with these fronts so far this month the bulk of the energy is long gone once they approach South Florida, we'll be lucky if we get a thunderstorm or two.

At this time of the year any mid latitude convective forcing south of 30 latitude is an enormous overperformance. It's precisely why Florida's dry max is centered on both April and November...both months reside in convective no man's land where summer rainy season is off the table and we're too far south for mid latitude features. we're outperforming by light years here even if the entire state doesn't cash in. We got bombed here for the third time in the last couple of weeks. So much for fire season here. We get bailed out at the last minute on that more often than not...just like hurricanes. It's a glorious rainy day here after a spectacular pre dawn squall line. Hopefully you guys downstate cash in...if not the summer rainy season is only a few weeks out..

I just saw on The Weather Channel where the panhandle of Florida including Panama City saw several tornado warnings, impressive to say the least! Now the front is just pushing into the peninsula, but the line of rain and storms is barely sagging south in between Orlando and Lake Okeechobee.

Also these overnight lows being in the 80’s for several different days within the month is unheard of here in South Florida! Those warm waters surrounding all of Florida are really showing off, this will likely be a HUGE concern come hurricane season.

Persistent heat and humidity is close at hand as it reliably covers the state from top to bottom by the end of May. Needless to say enjoy the normalish conditions incoming...they are going to vanish for good soon.

We are getting gypped in terms of where the afternoon storms are firing and heading today. Majority of the activity is firing along Lake Okeechobee and heading NE into Martin and St. Lucie counties. All we’re getting here in NE Palm Beach County is dark skies and a few rumbles of thunder.
