Re: ATL: ONE - Tropical Depression
This storm is useless without a name.
There, the season has begun.
Buckle up buttercups.

TD One's position under the trough axis and location next to the Gulf Stream is aiding tropical processes. It has since detached from the warm frontal boundary today, and has gained tropical characteristics (the dying frontal boundary to the east is making it appear the wind field is more expansive than it is). There's definitely some consolidating that still needs to occur (circulation near the surface remains broad), but you can see from GFS and UKMET phase evolutions (images below) the inner-core remains tropical for now:

Pretty cool how it will "tightrope" the Gulf Stream during its entire lifetime.

TD #1 is the first tropical cyclone to not originally start off Subtropical since coincidentally Hurricane Arthur in 2014.

Re: ATL: ARTHUR - Tropical Storm
Interesting that four of the last five Arthurs have formed in roughly similar places and affected the Outer Banks--in fact three of those forming off of Florida (1996, 2014, 2020) and in three different months.
