Steve is representing and drinking, don't even think he is home. Think he is in the Panhandle or Florida LOL.

I could swear there were a lot of Gulf Coast posters here before...did that change over the years? Well, I guess I'm not on the Gulf coast anymore. (Although I still have family there.)

Right?? Worse part for me is seeing the plume of moisture coming up and over Florida, yet lately anything heavy approaching the Orlando area seems to continually fall apart. I can't buy 1" rain :ggreen: I shouldn't complain though seeing the massive precip dump that Mexico and Central America has gotten. That's really tragic. Plenty of big rains & street flooding have been going on in areas around Jensen Beach and points north & south. Looks like the W. Coast has been getting some healthy rains as well.

well I am here from Deep South Louisiana, Cut Off La. to be exact. My house is about 30 miles by road to Grand Isle but by air or water only about half of that or less. I have been watching this storm mainly because I have to get prepped for even a small fairly weak storm because we lose power with a good summer breeze and because once the water comes up, I will probably not be able to leave Lafourche parish due to road closures.
Thanks to everyone who has been posting info about Christobal and the likely impacts.
I am expecting a mid to high-end TS. If it were to hit hurricane strength I figure it will be a minimal Cat 1 Storm at best.

There is a LOT going on in our country right now. I feel like Black Lives Matter movements and police brutality might be taking a lot of peoples energy and attention away from things that we normally like to watch as a hobby.

That's true, good point and probably that this storm isn't expected to amount to much. I imagine if a hurricane was forecast, it would probably be a different story.....

We’re all still here. I agree that there’s just too much else going on right now that needs attention. I won’t get political but there are plenty of us who have had enough of senseless killings. If you are from a city chances are you know and work with black people. They also make up many of our family members, mine included. I don’t need someone getting killed over a traffic stop turning into a misunderstanding or worse, a power trip. And there’s Covid-19 which has taken 110,000 of our fellow Americans in the last 3 months.

But even more than that, nobody I’ve talked to is really panicked or stressed about Cristobal. There isn’t a large scale threat and even the flooding is more likely to be minimal. So while those of us with scientific and fanatical interest may be posting, lots of people are on the sidelines.

Been monitoring it from my beach home in Biloxi... surprised the forecasted surge is so low at only 4-6 feet... it takes a surge of over 10 feet to get over the sea wall on Hwy 90 in front of my house... Kinda reminds me of the Isadore TS, which did produced a surge of 9-10 feet in front of the house as I recall.. it was basically a rainless system for me as I sat in the front yard with 55-60 mph winds, watching the surge hit the sea wall is always good viewing... I Guess I’m still in the “show me what ya going to do mode Christobal” as it starts tracking towards the coast.. but they always seem to throw an unexpected surprise at you as they approach the coast.. track change, stalling, intensifying or weakening changes.. so we wait and watch... sure glad is early June though... Steve does such a great job with the model updates, along with a plethora of other old times providing great info.. not much wish-casting either with this system! Most likely things on the board will start to pick up as The system progresses and more recon info is provided... but they have a lot more members from Florida and Tx on this site as opposed to the northern gulf coast region...

Ocean Springs, MS. We're liable to get the worst of the wind and rain from what I'm seeing. Everyone here is sort of over it. I've got beer, soup, and lawnchairs ready. Most peeps are still working from home around here anyways so not much of a change leading into Monday. I'll post pics/vids/updates in the locals thread when the time comes.

Also it’s a beautiful night here. It’s 80,s some sort of banded clouds here and there. It’s the calm before the storm night tonight. For newer members who maybe haven’t followed storms one thing to look for Sunday morning is where pressures are falling the most or lowest. That’s an almost fool proof method within a few hours to know where landfall is going to be. You can find buoy data at the national data buoy center or if you go to a local NWS page (in this case, Mobile/Pensacola, Slidell or Lake Charles, you can click on the current observations tab and it will bring up a list of locales and their conditions including barometric pressure. Before models, most of the TV Mets used to use that technique. Its probably best within 10 hours of landfall.

In an interesting turn of events, my Accuweather app told me in my local forecast's "Looking Ahead" section to be prepared for Tropical Storm Cristobal early next week....

I live on the Wisconsin/Illinois border... somehow I doubt I'm getting a tropical storm. Remnants? Sure. Hopefully they give me a good thunderstorm, this spring has been slow to start. We had a tornado spotted in town a couple weeks ago, but it was dead quiet where I am. I'm ready for a decent storm.

Recon data suggests Cristobal’s center is currently quite broad. Unless it’s able to contract a bit, intensification is going to be very difficult.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Recon finding rain-rates that can drive strong intensification.
