Storm is sort of dying out over North Dallas but the ground is wet and sun is hidden. :-)

Greetings follow Texans! A friend of mine introduced me to this thread a while back and I just got around to signing up.

A little about me... I'm a Civil Engineer in Longview, TX. I grew up in Iowa and received a BS from Iowa State University. I moved to Texas 10 years ago and worked in the oilfield for a few years before getting a MS from UT Tyler.

I've always been interested by the weather... especially severe weather (including winter weather). I've chased storms sporadically over the last 16 years or so, but usually don't have the time to do it much anymore. So I follow others online and read a few forums (Stormtrack and AmericanWX).

I'm glad to be here and share in our mutual interests!

Now that that's out of the way... I've been thankful for the timely rains I've been getting so far at my house. Just got about 0.75" this morning. It's been funny to see how close I've been to much heavier downpours lately though, only to miss out. A rain gage 10 miles away or so recorded 6.43" this morning...

:uarrow: Welcome to Storm2k cstrunk! The more the merrier around here. I think you will enjoy the forum year round. It gets slow this time of year but winter is fun once all the snow junkies are out from summer hibernation. Lots of clever weather minds to follow and learn from.

Welcome! Just in time the worst stretch of our yearly weather, unless, of course, you like tracking 100Fs!

DFW officially picked up 1.01" with some heavier totals off to the east. That puts us 0.77" ahead of normal for July and back over 11"+ for the year.

Welcome! I grew up in Longview and my Dad is still the HR guy for a big Chemical Company there. I make it up to the old pine curtain a few times a year.

Same here. The thunder woke me up while still dark, fell back asleep, then woke me up for good at 7. Quite loud and nice to hear. Just saw the temp outlook for next weekend and oh boy it is about to get HOT!! Saw a 104 on Sunday from Fox4. Say it isn't so.

We were driving back yesterday from a road trip, via I-30 heading into Rockwall towards Dallas. A severe thunderstorm warning popped up on the radio with quarter hail and 60mph winds (radar indicated). I checked radar, it was one lone cell on I-30 between Rowlett and Sunnyvale, with dark red and white color on the radar, right where we were headed! So I pulled over at a Love's gas station and waiting about 15 minutes. It got weaker, so I left Love's, but then I got this other severe storm that popped up.

As we went over Lake Ray Hubbard, the wind picked up like crazy, and there were white caps all over the lake. Boats and jet skis were out in it, racing back to shore! Wasn't a good time to be out on the water. We got heavy blinding rain and a lot of ponding on the roadway. No hail thankfully!lol My first thought was "Oh man, a severe thunderstorm in the DFW area is not good!"lol

It washed the bugs off my car and windshield, which was nice! :)

Unfortunately Whilst trying to pull those cells south, my rain machine broke down again and caused everything to dissipate as it headed into Austin. Back to the drawing board...

Bummer. May have to wait a few weeks or so, unfortunately. :/

Today was supposed to be the day. Last Thursday, they had an 80% chance of rain forecast for me today. Then Friday, it dropped to 70%, then 60% all weekend, and finally down to 50% by yesterday. I fully expected to wake-up to 30% but they held it at 50%, giving me a chance. Stared at dark clouds all day to my north - close enough to hear thunder at times. But in the end, I got nothing. Not a drop.

Yep and unfortunately that's likely it for our chances for a while. Heat ridge really builds in this weekend with much of the state seeing high temps above 100F. Hopefully the high shifts north like some of the longer range guidance indicates during the second half of July. That should get us in easterly flow and hopefully bring some tropical moisture in.
