Wow, look at that outflow and the hot towers firing off. Definitely a TS right now and I think it might be getting ready for a decent burst of intensification.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Center is right next to a surface observation. Looks like pressure is about 1006mb. Winds, however, are still well below TS strength. This system looks so much better organized than "50kt" TS Gonzalo. I know the NHC doesn't like to indicate major fluctuations in intensity from advisory to advisory, but small storms are capable of massive swings in a short period of time. Not sure the plane will find TS winds this evening. However, the environment around it is much more favorable than the environment around Gonzalo.

Time for bed from the UK, who knows what I’ll wake up to, could be anything from a depression that’s having a few unexpected hiccups to a rapidly intensifying Hanna!
I think it looks beautiful yet scary at the moment, and ready to go for it.

So far looks like winds haven't caught up to the pressure drop. That makes a lot of sense - TD8 has a huge swath of atmosphere in motion and it will take continued lowering in order to see the winds respond. These big systems need a lot of time and energy to hit the higher windspeeds. Reminds me a bit of Dolly 2008 - pressure got down to the low 960s but the winds barely hit category 2 strength.

You must have been typing this while the recon went through the CoC and found pressure down to around 1003mb

Man this has to be a TS or this is the greatest looking TD I have seen..

It is looking pretty good this evening. We have a very healthy cyclone in the North Central GOM this evening.

Also remember winds will need to catch up to the pressure. hopefully they stay out there. for a full flight.

1003 is pretty low for a depression, large size notwithstanding... if winds start catching up to the incredible structure and environment, hoo boy

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

So you really still think this is only a TD?
