Whats up with that?

Knabb is on the weather channel and addressed this saying they might be going in lower than initially planned.

They will not go into deep convection in the NE quadrant that low at 1,500 at night.

That’s what this immediately reminded me of.

Of course things just have to go wrong now...

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I think this is already a hurricane. Looks impressive and some evidence to support it.

Look at the towers forming and rotating around the center. Would not be surprised to see an eye carved out tonight.

Damn, I was so hoping to have recon tonight in this beast. They probably would’ve found a high end TS, especially since they were already finding 35 kt winds that far from the center. I hope whatever is going on can be resolved quickly, but if it’s another search and rescue like Lorenzo, then all bets are off.

Seems like a search & rescue operation is indeed happening. Michael Fischer confirmed it on twitter. I hope whoever's involved is going to be okay.

I'm looking at the outflow from Hanna via the GOES-EAST cirrus channel (https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=subregional-W_Gulf_Coast-04-24-1-100-1&checked=map&colorbar=undefined), and there's hardly anything in the entire northwestern sector. I mean, there's some, but nowhere near as much as what's around the rest of the system. What would be stifling outflow so much just in that sector?

Thanks...

Some dry air, mostly in the mid-levels as mentioned by the NHC this morning. Also, I think that dominant high pressure has bumped it south and impeded it's northwest side.

Unfortunately, it appears to be recovering from that though, and strengthening.

Dry air inhibiting outflow? How does that work?

Dry air is not inhibiting outflow. Outflow is way higher up at 300-200mb or 30K feet up. If you look at the upper air chart at 200 or 300 mb the anticyclone on top of Hanna is inhibited on the northwest side by the bottom of an upper level trough intruding into that area. The upper trough is interrupting outflow at that level. That is slowly abating.

Hopefully not an issue with the aircraft but they aren't going in at that altitude at night I wouldn't think. Looks like they are heading in the general direction of Lake Charles, may be diverting to the nearest airport. Hopefully the next set of obs will show them turning back into the storm.

Edit..right after I posted they turned back east. Maybe they are searching for something.

That is very weird, searching for something down there?

Maybe somebody dropped the keys?...

Looking very well wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a pressure drop of 3 to 4 per hour

Guys, I pray that they save the people quickly and get them where they need to be and then hurry up fast to get back to the storm.

Wow, wow wow, lots of convection firing off around what I'd imagine is the developing eyewall. I'd imagine we will have an eye clearing out tonight if this continues

54 mph sustained wind, 63 mph gust at buoy KEMK 30 minutes ago. Elevation says 0 feet, but it is actually 228 feet.

Recon is circling around in this one area. That might be where the missing person/people are. Hopefully this’ll be a quick, safe search and rescue.

Satellite presentation screams hurricane to me. Most impressive TS in the GOM on record.
